Virdi has bowled 5 overs. Van der Merwe, who to me only takes CC wickets on a bunsen, has bowled 13. Unless he's managed to injure himself, that says quite a lot, I fear. On the plus side he did make 15!

Virus bowled just 5 overs at Taunton. Not sure I see the point of him being there.Unless they are looking to sign him? To be frank I doubt whether him or Moriaty would have done anything at Scarborough. Bess only took a wicket because Patel went for a wild yahoo.

Read what I wrote again. I actually agree fully that's its a weird selection and not one I'd make.dougieginn wrote:Ben mug, at no point have I criticised Jacks, see my previous post. It the absurd assumption that you can turn an occasional spinner into a specialist spinner ,just like that. It seems that this is Batty’s idea, what nonsense,as is the idea that only seamers are selected could Moriarty or Virdi have bowled worse than McKerr? Or bowled as few overs as Lawes? 489/7 is this a vindication of the selection policy in this match? We haven’t won anything yet, so don’t extol Batty’s virtues yet. Finally, what is a good selection in April isn’t the same as a good selection in July

Sadly Virds has figures of 0-121.

In his defense, everyone else also got a bit of a tap

Going at nearly 5 an over from as many as 25 overs isn't great for a specialist spinner. I think that's where Moriarty has the edge now: he isn't necessarily any more potent, but he does seem able to exert a bit more control.

Virdi has always had a release ball in him, probably will never change that.
It goes without saying, it's hardly easy to just rock up to a game and expect much when he hasn't played any meaningful cricket in what, 9/10 months? Poor sod

Says a lot that it’s 100 excuses for Virdi when Van der Merwe took fifer and Burns gets a lot of criticism on here undeservedly.

Ahhh hugs for Rory! Van der Merwe also bowled an extra 15 overs and wasn’t exactly economical. Who knows how many cheap wickets Virdi would have picked up if he’d had the same opportunity? I think the point has been made by Alex that it was unfair to expect too much from him given it’s his first proper match in a very long time.

Perhaps, but it does smack of favouritism when Burns got criticised in the other thread for his 132!

Delray Rawlins at Hove : 49-3-223-0. Most expensive bowling figures in the Couny Championship, ever.

Re: Amar Virdi on his way out ?
Is Jacks a better all-round cricketer than Virdi? Undoubtedly. Is he a better spinner? He is not. I think it really is that simple.
Unfortunately, it seems the club have lost their faith in Virdi and it is looking like it’ll be tough for him to turn that around. I think that’s a real shame. However, as others have said, it’s hard to criticise the club when we’re top of the table.
As for Moriarty, he just can’t seem to get a run in the red ball side. Without that, it’s hard to see how viable he is as a main spinner in the long form game.

Sad for Virdi, but he is just good enough to warrant a place in the side right now. Maybe things will improve for him.

I notice that Matt Renshaw got 3-29 from 5 overs. Now I have no idea what Renshaw bowls, but I am aware that he is only an occasional bowler
