One Day Cup

I realise that the CC is more important, but I noticed that the 1 day cup is starting soon

Without looking into it, I assume that it is on at the same time as the 100, and as I have no interest in that and I cant be bothered to look who is signed up for whom, how many Surrey players will be missing during the 1 day cup, and who have we got left?

By my reckoning the following are available:

Hashim Amla
Ben Geddes
Nico Rosberg
Ryan Patel
Tom Lawes
Cameron Steel
Conor McKerr
Matt Dunn
Nick Kimber
Amar Virdi
James Taylor
Nathan Barnwell

I assume you mean Reifer rather Rosberg. Wouldn't have much faith in Dunn being fit.

I think Foakes will be able to play a chunk of it? He hasn't been picked up in the 100 and next test isn't until 17th of August?

Just seen its true. So thats Foakes, Pope and Smith all gone and even occasional/one time keepers Burns and Evans not around.

Will be interesting who they manage to pluck out of league cricket to play and how they get on. Smith was our captain last year and all.

Our Squad of 12 left over.

Hashim Amla - Class with the bat but a liability in the field
Ben Geddes - The next Jason Roy so I'm told
Nico Riefer - Overrated imo
Ryan Patel - should dominate in this comp, probably captain
Tom Lawes - Promising but inexperienced
Cameron Steel - Bit part player but useful has captained the 2s so another candidate for that role that role.
Conor McKerr - Decent and has pace
Matt Dunn - Injured and hasnt done anything in a Surrey shirt for more than 5 years
Nick Kimber - Average bits and pieces player only played in last year RLODC
Amar Virdi - has never played a professional white ball game
James Taylor - Promising but inexperienced
Nathan Barnwell - uncapped on a rookie contract

So we will be without

T Curran
Evans
Foakes
Jacks
Jordan
Moriarty
Overton
Roy
Smith

Worrall

Fraustrating because I cant see Atkinson Burns Smith or Worrall playing at all. And doubt Foakes, Moriarty, Clark (maybe even Evans or TC based on recent form/fitness) will play more than a handful of games.

so more players out than available and with 5 keepers on the books, not 1 of them is available

I notice Pope hasnt been mentioned in either list, but assume he is on the 'unavailable' one

I'm sure he's allocated to one of the 100 franchises but not The Oval. Possibly Cardiff?

Has now signed a contract so assume he is signed purely for the RLODC. Hopefully he can do well with the opportunity.

We are going to be significantly weaker than we were last year. Which is a shame. despite being a 2nd X1 competition last seasons was very enjoyable.

I guess we were just lucky that Clarke, Moriarty, Atkinson, Amla, Patel & Smith were available for the majority of the comp. I cant see us having anything like that core of a squad this year.

I wonder if there is any scope for the 100 franchises to release players for the odd game here or there if they aren't likely to feature.

I just cant see Burns, Moriarty, Atkinson, Smith playing at all really (as good as they are but given they aren't first choice in an 18 team competition I don't see how they can be in a supposedly stronger 8 team competition). I suspect the likes of Worrall and even Evans Clark & TC might not feature all that much based on recent form/fitness. Would make sense to have them paying some cricket but I guess money talks.

Correct, he is in the Fireman Sam outfit (Welsh Fire Men if you don't get that joke). Last year the ECB took him out of the Hundred to play 50 over cricket for Surrey.

Which makes even more of a mockery of the competition.
