New/FirstContracts
I see Virdi and Ealham have been signed up . The former never seems to get a game , so surprised at the new deal . TE looks a good prospect .

I am surprised Virdi signed since he is a long way away from the team, but probably no other county made an offer. The club must still think he has a future to have made an offer. If only he could bat he would get more game time. At his best he is top class, good luck to him we need a top class spinner.

Freddie VDB was kept on for years without very often getting close to a game.

The Cricketer has said as much as there is little interest from the other counties in Virdi.

It is poor that the length of the contracts has not been made public, a critical bit of information.

Most likely to do with the fact that the bulk of the Championship is played at times of the year when spin is of little value.

I don't doubt that.

Yeah the teams where Virdi may get a game, simply can’t afford one format, one dimension players in their squad. Especially when that one dimension is the least valued in the country.

It is a real shame that players such as Virdi who are perhaps strong County players but not quite Test standard might in the future not find a place in professional cricket. Amar is likely a player who in years gone by could have played into his mid-30s, but I suspect once Surrey no longer have a contract to offer him, he will need to explore other career options.

Re: New/FirstContracts
What a sad state of affairs. 3 or 4 years ago we had 2 excellent spin bowlers who were both held back by the current head coach. When either played they did well and were thought to be capable of reaching test match level. Now one has gone and the remaining one will spend most of his time playing red ball cricket for the 2nd team and his club. These 2 players have been replaced by an ordinary slow bowler who often bats in the manner of a limited over rather than spending time in the middle. I'm not criticising Will Jacks but I fear he might become another Jason Roy. I don't believe a 40 ball 70 is necessarily ideal for 4 or 5 day cricket.

It’s the way cricket has gone unfortunately. Too many ordinary all-rounders and at the expense of talented specialists in their chosen disciplines with one or two talents at both batting and bowling.

Wouldn’t our Spin Bowlers play Regularly if they were really good enough!
