Jade Dernbach
Not sure if this has been mentioned in other threads but I thought Jade at least deserves his own thread given it was announced yesterday that he’s leaving the club. He’s not everyone’s cup of tea and I have been critical of his rare appearances this season (though that was largely due to him not looking fit enough to play so shouldn’t have been selected).
Great Surrey man. Every player shows it in their own way but he really made it clear every time he stepped onto the pitch exactly how much he loved playing for Surrey. He’s had some top white ball moments but it was his red ball form during the title season that really stood out for me. He played such a vital role with the new ball in what was a formidable pace quartet that season. He didn’t take a stack of wickets but would regularly get one of the top order players which then opened up the rest for Morkel.
Go well Jade, I hope you find success at a new club.

Yes nice bloke. Not a naturally gifted cricketer but always tried his best. But like others really too many injuries these days. Good luck in your future career.

Cannot argue with his commitment, in his prime he was undoubtedly one of the best Death Bowlers I have seen ,not only at County Level but for England as well. Best wishes for the future, whatever you do.

Re: Jade Dernbach
He was in truth a moderate red-ball bowler throughout his career: barely 300 first-class wickets at 32.6 over 113 matches is a meagre return from a specialist seam-bowler. Yes, 2018 was one of his better seasons: but only relatively. Morkel and Clarke were a class apart.
It cannot be denied that he was a very effective short-form bowler, especially at the death. He was instrumental in our 2011 win with 4 for 30 in the (then) 40-over final against Somerset, and his 6 for 35 in the 2015 50-over final against Gloucestershire should have proved decisive had our batsmen not somehow messed up a modest target. It cannot really be said that he enhanced his reputation when picked for England - he was often eye-wateringly expensive.
Personally, he has been on a "journey". He was undoubtedly at the heart of the 'events' of 2012, and it did him little credit that he seemed unwilling to take any responsibility for his part. In recent years, however, he genuinely seems to have matured. I was surprised when I heard him speak after the end-of-season awards in 2018 just how intelligent he was. For some reason I wasn't expecting him to be.
Good luck, Jade. I am not sure I would count him as a club legend, but he is someone who made his mark and is leaving us with happier memories than once appeared likely.
