I’d be very surprised if there was an option for our boys to ‘ask’ to play. I believe it’s more along the lines of Willey knew he wasn’t in the starting XI so he asked to be excused. Even that wasn’t confirmed until late in the day.

Was there a possibility that the match could have been Willey's last match for Yorkshire? Not sure if he'll be playing in the RL. That might have made him extra keen to be able to turn out as he may have thought he owed the supporters (and his team mates) one.

I know it's harsh to criticise Jamie Overton after his efforts had pretty much single-handedly put us into such a strong position going into the final over. But the fact is that if he hadn't been run out we'd have effectively needed 2 runs from the final 2 balls to win which he and Laurie Evans between them were well capable of doing.

Anyway onwards and (hopefully) upwards. Let's hope we can get some sort of revenge in Scarborough next week.

The run out was Evans’s fault.

That was a fantastic final. Had it all.

And the ECB don't give an absolute toss

I think the competition was fantastic - great quarter finals and finals day. The fact that interest could be sustained even without England players available shows the value of a system where supporters are actually invested in their side. Fail to see what the point of the 100 is. Who actually cares who wins? Has it always been Rory Burns’s dream to play Bury St Edmonds Rockets??
