Think this is a pretty good signing what with us probably losing a whole host of England players.

Re: Tom Latham signs for 5 County Championship games in June and July
Surrey have take advantage of a change to the restrictions on registering overseas players this season. Last year, only three were allowed to be registered with the club at any one time. As we had already booked Narine and Pollard for the T20 that meant that we could only have one other overseas championship player registered with us until our interest in the T20 was over. The quota of overseas players allowed at any one time has now increased to four, so that Latham can join Roach and Abbott in our squad without any of them being required to deregister while Narine is doing his magic in the Blast. Unless I've misinterpreted it, that does however mean we won't be able to sign another overseas T20 specialist to join Narine, but given that Pollard's contribution even before his injury was fairly superflous last year I think we've done well to prioiritise the championship.
We can still field only two of them in any fixture, but we are very sensible to have anticipated the need to reinforce the batting given that Pope and Foakes will be off with England, and Jacks will probably join them if he is fit.
Latham's record in England with New Zealand is not as eye-catching as some of their other batsmen: Conway, Williamson and Daryl Mitchell who is a stellar signing for Lancashire and thankfully won't be with them in time to play us this week. Nonetheless, he is a proven test batsman and will strengthen us at a crucial time. He also keeps wicket, and so provides an option in terms of allowing Jamie Smith to concentrate on his batting which I'm very keen that he does if he's to fulfil his potential.

Having not won the T20 since the first year 2003, despite signing a host of overseas "superstars" ,why don't we try and win it,or more likely lose it,using our own players? Just a thought.

Abbott is our 2nd overseas player for the Blast

In that case we have all bases covered for both competitions.

Is the order not a bit top-heavy now with Burns, Sibley, Latham, and Patel all able to open (and Pope probably wanting #3)?
