You'd hope they've consulted with Surrey because we are obviously building a squad with Roach, Overton, Worral, Lawes, etc, will their necessarily be a place for him in our attack, especially when Abbott joins up.

We obviously have to plan our overseas signings, its a bit frustrating if Dan Lawrence is unexpectedly back in the England set-up, as we sign bowlers and now we potentially have Atkinson available, whould we have signed Hardie, or gone for someone like Latham who could have covered Lawrence and possibly Foakes absence.

I don't see Lawrence playing for England without scoring heavily for Surrey.

When you look at our batting options we're certainly without Jacks (IPL) at start of the season, so Lawrence is effectively a straight replacement in our line-up, we can't then afford to lose him aswell as Pope and Foakes at the same time in the season.

I'm guessing Ryan Patel will have 4 or 5 games to stake a claim for his place next season.

Lawrence will bat at 4.

Atkinson has a first class average of 28, stick him in at 5 after Lawrence and tell him to hit.

Patel at 3, Lawrence at 4, Atkinson at 5 then - sorted

Worth to note both Sibley and Burns averaged in the low 20s in the first innings last season. we really need big seasons from both of them.(neither got a century in first innings)

Pope should bat 3 for most of the CC games if not all. He wont be in the IPL or the England T20 squad. The tests dont start until July!! We all know that the ECB will block him playing some games though which is crazy.

Pope was available to Surrey for first 4 County Championship games last season, so hopefully the ECB don't want players who've been on that India tour rested. (tour ends mid March, season starts April)

We have to go up to Old Trafford with our best XI possible. (Jacks, both Currans and Topley all unavailable playing in IPL)

I hope we don't lose Jacks too often but the other three can fxxx off.

Jacks has signed up to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2024
(Will Jacks, Sam Curran, Jason Roy, Reece Topley and Tom Curran all playing in IPL)

We have 4x T20 games with Pakistan (22nd May - 30th May)
(We might get to see our first glimpse of some Surrey players when England play at Oval on the 30th)

The T20 World Cup runs - 4th – 30th June 2024 (Jacks, S Curran, Topley and Atkinson were in last T20 squad)

If Jacks is selected for England T20 Squad he will miss 9x County Championship games and 8x Vitality T20 Blast games.

The amount of games our players are missing has become ridiculous and very annoying.  I do not blame the players too much as cricket is their living and it is not a long career.  Players like Sam Curran and Ollie Pope always seem keen to play for Surrey where international commitments allow.   Others like Tom Curran and Roy are seemingly white ball mercenaries we see little of.  The plethora of T20 competitions around the world is a major problem, they need to be cut back or at least stripped of overseas players where those players should be playing domestic cricket (e.g no English players available May-Sept).  I doubt we could include the IPL in this, but let us dream. Needless to say the horrid hundred should also go.

This is a good move from the ECB and something they should do more often. They have the money to cover IPL withdrawals, don’t they?

So while he's dropped out of the IPL he'll possibly be playing cricket in Pakistan (when India Test series ends) for a week from 11th through to 18th Match if his team get into the Play-offs. (Peshwar Zalmi are currently 4th in table, with 3 games to go so a possiblity) news story
