England (Internationals)
Apparently Root asked to play one of the three Ireland matches (originally the one that was completely washed out) as he felt undercooked after the NZ series. The rest of the World Cup squad are "resting" ahead of that tournament. (Don't shoot the messenger.)Chinaman wrote:This becomes even more utterly pointless, only Root from the World Cup Squad is playing! Bizarre. Am I missing something?

If they continue as they have been recently, you'll also be able to give up with the England rugby team.
I never started on that ! Does anyone ,aside from the refs, know the rules?

Judging by your opinions on modern cricket, I'm surprised you still follow football at all.

That's an England B team. I'm sorry, but it is.

Mark Adair has just proven why boundaries have to be so far in these days - he's just clobbered an advertising board trying to stop a 4.

Match abandoned at Bristol. How quickly can Jacks and Smith get here?

In my view they should go home. They won't be required and it's unfair on other players. Why should they have licence to pick and choose? If they want to play a pointless B team "International" stay in the rain at Bristol, the worst ground in the Country .

Tbf to Jacks and Smith, they've both contributed significantly to our being top of the table and realistically would have had no choice about playing against Ireland if they harbour hopes of further England opportunities.
As so often, fault rests not with the players but the ECB squeezing too much into too short a time.

Pietersen was criticised for not playing every international and now we’re criticising players for playing internationals. You can’t win.

Because he was so keen to play county cricket?

And another thing...
Playing 'warm-ups' against teams you're going to be competing against in the tournament you're warming up for.

50 Over World Cup Hopefully the last. I think 20/20 & 40/40 the way to go now for International Cricket.

Look, all the comments about "why are we playing Ireland/Netherlands/Afghanistan" in bilaterals and this is what you get. Afghanistan have played only 3 ODIs against "good" teams since 2019, and if members of this board had their way that would never, ever change.

Re: England (Internationals)
Well I have to come briefly out of my winter soujoun for this one.
This England Team will be lucky to make the quarter finals at this rate. I don't know the Afghan bowlers but I presume most of our wickets went to spin? We can't play spin of course. It seems as though this team is the tail end of the Morgan era and badly needs a reboot with some new blood in it. Sam Curran hasn't done hardly anything in any form of cricket for about 6 months. Woakes-really? And what's happened to Bazball? Butler is a useless captain. They need an infusion of Stokes at his best, and quick because it's fast going down the pan. None of this lot actually played in the One Day Cup and it shows. I couldn't be happier actually. But well done Afghanistan, what a victory for a team from a war ravaged country with no money.

Pick a team from those that play domestic 50-over cricket?

Well they might at least look more interested. England have only played 47 ODI's since the 2019 World Cup.

That's actually not a small number of internationals. But if it's the only 50-over cricket that any of them play...

This is what the 100 has done to England cricket but the ECB wont admit it.
