Indeed. I don't know about the Surrey match but the Middlesex website described it as a NCAA Showcase match so perhaps it is more of a contractual obligation to enable the ex-minor county to be able to make some gate money now that they are totally unrepresented in the cup competition. It didn't look much like a first XI, particularly the bowling. Middlesex were about 275-2 off 30 then collapsed in the usual trademarked fashion. Berkshire knocked them off with overs to spare. One cynic suggested that everyone wanted to be off the field and showered in time to watch the womens' Euro final, which I am sure Sir Winston enjoyed.

Basically, not really worth getting worked up about and not much of a guide to team selection, though it may be for Surrey.
