Tom Curran Banned From Big Bash

He practised on the cut strip and when the umpire stood in the way charged through nonetheless.

He has been banned for four games for intimidating the umpire.

Will Surrey do anything? Of course not.

That sounds like him.

He will be hardly playing for us next season so dont get involved.

Don’t think it’s fair to punish someone twice for the same offence.Goes against natural justice!

Apparently he called the umpire a 'fuckhead'. You can't go talking to officials like that. No ifs, no buts.

If you watch the whole he's acting like a petulant child

Perhaps he was sulking because the umpire had told him he wasn't the best player in his family...

Seriously, it is such a daft thing to do - franchises might be reluctant to sign him - that I wonder if there is something completely different bugging him.

His career has gone sideways, he like so many no longer plays red ball too. He must be disappointed in his progress, especially seeing the relative success of his brother. It does sounds as if there is some other issue behind this incident, I would not have thought Curran had a particularly short fuse.

Maybe the money he makes in the Big Bash, The ILT20 in the UAE, the Pakistan Super League, the IPL, Major Cricket League and the Hundred will make up for the disappointment of not playing for Surrey in the County Championship.

Curran T is an interesting one. Always felt he is a very talented guy and will clearly make a fair bit of money in franchise cricket. You do wonder though whether players like him will ultimately have careers that make them feel unfulfilled in a sporting sense. I accept he will make more money treading the path he has and that is understandable. However one wonders whether he could have become an effective test match player or close to. You also wonder that as these guys age and they are no longer the players they once were who will be looking out for them and supporting them as they become further removed from a ‘team’

Yes I think that many of these franchise players may well regret when they have retired just chasing the money instead of progressing their International careers in white or red ball cricket where their achievements will be better recognised and remembered in the future. Money isn’t everything!!!

TC being pretty stupid trying to push the issue to the extreme testing the Umpires resolve unfortunately he came a cropper.
