Re: Live Cricket On TV
What's so good about it being on TNT or ANY channel which is not FTA?
What percentage of the population have access to these channels and how many of them are interested in cricket?
Until a terrestrial channel comes up with the funding, cricket will remain a minority sport.

Re: Live Cricket On TV
Both Sky and TNT (formerly BT Sport) get pretty low viewing figures for cricket, including the Ashes last summer. The 5 main terestrial channels are not going to show 7 hours of cricket a day. It won't happen. You could argue BBC could use the BBC 4 or 3 platforms, but with 1000s deserting the licence fee not a chance. In 2005 channel 4 got 4 million viewers a day for the Ashes, more than Eastenders and Coronation Street combined today. Media has changed and yes cricket will remain a minority sport

It's more worrying to me that Sky don't feel they need it.

Main Stream TV you can’t compete with. The Post Office Scandal mini Series tells you everything.

In Wednesday’s edition of the Telegraph it reported “ With the late announcement, it appears likely that the broadcaster will assemble a studio team and take commentary from the world feed, which is expected to feature former England captains Eoin Morgan and Kevin Pietersen. The rights were sold by India some months ago to Pitch International, the London-based agency that has a foothold in cricket through its work with the England and Wales Cricket Board. Oli Slipper, the chairman at Surrey, is executive chairman of Pitch.” It then goes on to say that the company bought the rights for a long term deal for all Indian cricket but it is unclear whether it is just for this series or the full long-term package to TNT.

I suspect India will prove far better than us.

Blimey, Slipper gets in everywhere. No wonder he wants to increase the Blundread teams.
Isn't there a conflict of interest somewhere in this?

Skys coverage is getting worse. Tuned in to the SA 20 to see Roy bat. He chips one in the air just over the head of mid off who nearly caught it. At the end of the over the host broadcaster start to show the replay but then Sky decide to f**k off to a shit advert and you dont get to see the replay!
F**king crap.
F**king crap.

I remain concerned as to the potential for a conflict of interest.

Whether it’s a conflict of interest or not I remain rather uneasy about Mr Slipper.

Questions should have been raised about Rob Key coming from the background that he did.

You have to remember 2005 was the exception, not the rule. Sky’s 2009 Ashes coverage beat Channel 4’s 2001 coverage.

Dan Worralls Sunrisers Eastern Cape beat Reece Topleys Durban's Super Giants in the final to win The SA20.

I'd hope "Frank" would be available.
Reece Topley will be playing in the IPL (along with Will Jacks, Jason Roy, Sam and Tom Curran and Gus Atkinson)
IPL runs - 29th March 2024 – 26th May 2024
Then whoever gets selected for England:
The T20 World Cup runs - 4th – 30th June 2024
So there will be a number of Surrey players (2 seasons running) who's first appearance at the Oval next season will be in the Hundred.

Re: Live Cricket On TV
We have an ever growing band of white ball players now who will never play County Championship again sadly, so while Topley and the Currans make hay while sun shines, in whatever part of the world its summer, we have to hope Overton, Lawes and Atkinson are all available to replace them at Surrey. Likewise we can't rely on Pope, Foakes, Jacks and Lawrence, so we are going if they are off playing for England, so we need Burns and Sibley to step up and improve on last season, build our innings on big runs from our experienced openers, didnt happen much last year. Will be a big season for Jamie Smith if we are going to give him the full time wicket keeper role, if Foakes continues for England

Re: Live Cricket On TV
The CC will be phased out eventually or be a 4 day version of the 50 over Trophy we have at the moment. Diluting massively the importance of the matches and the Championship itself.
