A good signing or a repeat of so many other signings such as Plunkett and Topley ?

Surely he'll be unavailable for all the same games as Tom Curran? Which is nearly all games in all three formats.

I assume he'll be a like-for-like replacement for Liam Plunkett: I.e. our imported non-playing England regular.

At least KP actually turned out for us from time to time when he filled the role back in the day...

A skillful white ball player for sure, but what's the point? He'll play for what, maybe 3/4 games a year?

Now confirmed that Jordan is leaving Sussex at the end of this season. Seems inevitable now...

T20 captain next season... Gareth Batty no doubt lined up to step in when CJ gets the inevitable injury before the thing starts.

If the Blast is played in it’s entirety before the Hundred next season then this could be a good signing. But that also depends on ODIs/IPL etc.

We could also use his experience opening the batting to replace Stoneman in the CC 🤣

I don't mind this. Hopefully Jordan will be available for the Blast, which I think he has been signed for, he is a fine white ball player and may do OK as captain. One of many Adams errors was failure to recognise his talent, he should never have left.

Now we will, hopefully start looking for batsmen. Yes some youngsters would be good.

Will Macpherson in the Standard has said that we are unlikely to sign anybody else until the new fixture list is known. Not sure why that precludes us from signing an opener though.

The irony is that we end up with identifiably separate red-ball and white-ball squads, the former only playing in April, May, June and September and the latter only playing in July and August. The schedules are tough on the spectators but not so much on the players.

The further irony is that, even ignoring the possibility of players playing in both formats, we have excellent potential XIs in both formats that we can never field because of international call-ups, international ‘resting’ and injury, for instance:

Red ball: Burns, Patel, Amla, Pope, Smith, Foakes, Clark, Worrall, McKerr, Virdi

White ball: Roy, Jacks, Evans, S Curran, Steel, Overton, T Curran, Jordan, Topley, Moriarty, Batty.

Obviously, both sides could be made even stronger with an added overseas player or two. Our optimal XIs would also involve a bit of mixing and matching between squads.

... and then there are pretty decent reserves like Atkinson, Geddes, Dunn, (Reifer, Taylor, Kimber).

If we signed (say) Roach for red ball and Finch for white ball, the only ‘weakness’ is perhaps the need for another red-ball opener.

Thoughts, anyone?
