Overseas options
I see Roach is back playing for the Windies so when
the series ends at the end of June will we see him
back with us for the rest of the season?
On the other hand, the Australian white ball games
end soon in Sri Lanka so will Sean Abbott be the
man?

Re: Overseas options
Sean Abbott will join us as soon as we are able to release at least one of our two T20 specialists (Narine and Pollard). We can't have more than three overseas players registered at a time, regardless of which competitions they play in. Amla is registered for the season.

Ok cheers Jackers. Pollard will have to go as Narine is superb.

Re: Overseas options
Pollard is out of the rest of the T20 with a knee injury.
We can now de-register him and sign someone in time for the Kent and Yorkshire championship games, whether it's Sean Abbott (as planned) or AN Other if Abbott is injured, as rumoured. Ideally, we'd sign someone who could play both championship and T20 but players of that quality who are available at short notice are rare.
Still....in Alec (and his magic contacts book) we trust.
EDIT: with Clark potentially injured we definitely need to sign an overseas.

I see Lancs have signed Washington Sundar to play RLC cup and first class stuff. There are options out there, hopefully we get news in a day or two.

Re: Overseas options
At the last members forum Stewart said it was his intention not to play overseas players in the Royal London cup, except in dire circumstances such as an injury crises.

Re: Overseas options
If Amla does not play in the RL cup we will be down to the bare bones. In my view the cup is a competition Surrey are playing in and they should try to win it. Will we have any keeper available or will they all be playing the horrid hundred?

I see the boys from across the Thames have signed
Yadav for a few games so maybe Stewie has an Indian
player lined up after the ODI series. Hardie is only here
for this game so we need an overseas bowler.

Re: Overseas options
As far as I’m aware, Ravi Ashwin isn’t in the ODI squad for these matches or those to come during August in the West Indies. It would need the management to change strategy and acknowledge the need for a spinner but that seems like a ticket to wins to me.

Hi Cee Gee - interesting idea but don't expect any help from me in fending off Dougie and RB!

Absolutely fantastic news as with current injuries we are a little short on new ball bowlers. Delighted he wants to come back time after time as well...

Cracking news, and obviously why Hardie only stayed for 1 championship game
I notice there is no mention of him being available for the one day cup though

Doesn't the Caribbean Premier League normally take place during August? I'm guessing he'll play in that.Coatesy wrote:Cracking news, and obviously why Hardie only stayed for 1 championship game

Depends how well the CPL pays. Surrey might be the more lucrative option.

Re: Overseas options
I don't think he plays much by way of white ball cricket; had a recall last year for a tour of India, but nowadays very much a red ball specialist, which is what we need him for
I see lots of Indian players being signed up for the RLODC at other counties...

If Roach is not playing in the Caribbean Premier League during August, I'm sure he'll find his way to one of The Hundred franchise teams then. Regardless, a very good signing for the Championship.

Re: Overseas options
I make it that we still have space to sign an overseas player just for the RLODC, if anyone is available. We now have Amla and Roach registered: we are allowed three at any one time.

Re: Overseas options
There’s little point in us signing an overseas specifically for this competition. Just play whoever is available from the squad with some kids and save the money.

Can all three play in the same match? I had "two" in my mind as the maximum allowed in the same team at the same time, whatever the competition.

Re: Overseas options
You are correct, Adelaide: we are allowed to register three and field two of them at any one time.
If Amla and Roach were both willing and able to play in the 50 over stuff then I would agree that we should not bother to seek a third option. But if Roach is otherwise engaged through August "play whoever is available from the squad ..the kids and save money" is a rather depressing prospect. I am certainly glad we had a sprinkling of Tim David stardust on board last year: a couple of Ryan Patel innings aside it would not have been much to watch otherwise. if no-one better than we have is available fair enough, but if there is someone out there who would improve the squad even a bit let's have them.

Great that Roach is coming back... as long as his leg doesn't fall off again!
