Hmm, appear to be available now after what I assume was a cock-up

Re: 50 over cup 2023
Guildford really isn't fit for purpose now. A few years ago, Surrey made a big "song and dance" about it becoming our new home from home after investing a lot of money on developing the pavillion. But (apart from the loos) none of that development benefits the members or spectators.
The capacity and quality of seating was already inadequate, and has since been made worse by the huge increase in membership numbers and the loss of almost 1,000 seats on the Woodbridge Road side because of ECB's ridiculous "elf n safety" rules. We now have just 7 championship and 4 Royal London Cup home games, all of which members should be entitled to attend without the pre-booking hassle we experienced in the reign of COVID John, or worse being told there are no spaces left as will be the case nearer the games.
However desirable it is to play at the historic county town venue, as things stand we shouldn't be.

They were officially "sold out" but I understand a lot of members didn't turn up on the day for the Leicester game. That's poor because locals just can't go and buy a ticket on the day. And no there is no 4 day game and hopefully they won't play any first class games there any more. It's a poor ground and by far the worst out ground in the country. They could improve capacity by getting rid of one of the tents and putting a temporary stand in, but Jackers has already suggested this, and nothing has happened.

Yep, very much as I thought yesterday and as Alex says, in rather uncharacteristically restrained language, a cock-up.
Rather than improving the situation, Surrey CCC do seem hell bent on everything to do with cricket at Guildford going to ruin and then pulling the rug away.

I emailed the ticket office yesterday and they’ve replied confirming there was a glitch. Tickets are available now (or were an hour ago)

Thanks, David. A great shame and mystifying that you weren't elected to the General Committee.

You’re very kind, I’ll probably try again next year.

This makes sense. Burns seems to be practising his bowling a lot.

Re: 50 over cup 2023
I see that quite a lot of sides are signing overseas players for the competition which suggests the counties are taking it semi-seriously - Curtis Campher will be a useful addition for Somerset
No idea what we'll do but I assume it'll be largely full of rookies again with most of our youngsters spending the month carrying drinks

At the recent forum, Alec said no overseas player for the One Day Cup.

Shows that we're not taking it particularly seriously then. Do we even know who we have available?

Re: 50 over cup 2023
Burns and Foakes as mentioned above then (my assumptions) Sibley, Patel, Geddes, Blake, McKerr, Dunn, Verdi
I’m not sure if Jordan Clark has a franchise crisp packet to wear, I think Alec mentioned him but I may be mistaken.
And hopefully a couple more to make up a team - hopefully more competitive than last year.

Smith, Evans, Overton, Topley, Sam Curran, Jacks, Roy, Tom Curran, Lawes, Atkinson, Jordan, Worrall - all gone
That is more or less our T20 side gone, Jesus Christ. I guess it'll be something like Burns, Sibley, Geddes, Blake, Foakes, Clark, Moriarty, Majid, McKerr, Dunn, Taylor, Barnwell
We really are down to the barebones when it comes to the bowlers

Justin Broad averaging 85.5 in the Surrey Championship, worth a proper contract?

Yes. Contracted until the end of 2024. I mentioned him a couple of years ago. Trialling in Surrey 2s as recently as last season.

Some threadbare line ups in the first of 50 over cup games today.A pretty meaningless Competition.
