Second Eleven Championship
Anyone know where you can find the current score? Nothing on the Oval site, not even a 1st Day report.

Re: Second Eleven Championship
Oh dear. None of those bowlers really "hammering the door down" there. Majid may have had 3-49 but that's at 7 per over!

Re: Second Eleven Championship
I'm by no means an afficianado of the "stiffs", but Moriarty batting at 8 and Virdi due in at 9 surely indicates that we have a surfeit of bowlers and a dearth of batsmen sloshing around the fringes of our squad.
I am however intruiged to note that Blake made 80, batting at 4 and having kept wicket all day yesterday. My concerns about the impact of keeping on Jamie Smith's potential to become a top-class specialist batsman are well documented, so (albeit against inferior bowling) Blake's knock seems an especially creditable performance. I noticed Alec giving him some practice on the outfield during the Hampshire game, and I wonder whether he is going to come into contention later in the season when we lose Ben Foakes (and Ollie Pope). If he is at least as good a keeper as Smith and can slot in at 6 or 7 then it will enable Jamie to concentrate on his batting, move up the order, and reap the benefits we glimpsed at Old Trafford.

Jackers - I follow and pretty much go along with your thinking about Smith and Blake. At risk of muddying the waters though, I was pleasantly surprised how well Smith kept against Hants with the ball often moving around and our seamers getting lift.
Latham of course is another option when Foakes is unavailable.

Smith kept ok, but he dropped a relatively easy chance on the first morning. I know we are used to the standards Foakes sets, but even so that could have been costly. I am not suggesting he is a poor keeper, just that his ceiling as a keeper/batsman is not as high as if he specialises as a batsman. Point taken about Latham, but unless Patel raises his game we are going to have a couple of slots to fill in the top 4 soon ( Latham and Smith step in/forward). That's why I am interested in Blake's development.

Smith and Blake are both from Sutton CC, indeed Blake is the current 'keeper. Both are very good batsmen already and will surely get even better.

Re: Second Eleven Championship
It's highly unlikely Latham will keep unless it's an emergency. I'm sure he's coming to bat and as pointed out above, he'll be needed in the top 4, which is why we've signed him. Blake is a good keeper and we should use him rather than Smith.

Re: Second Eleven Championship
Looks like Moriarty is taking on the Kent batsmen single handed. Taylor currently 3 overs 0/33, Virdi 3 overs 0/34. Oh (very) dear.

It looks like we're going to get the silver medal in this match. Sheridan Gumbs gets a pair. Wasn't he released at the end of last year?

100 for Josh Blake! Sheridon Gumbs is only 18 - shall we give him a chance? FFS..................

Assuming Blake's keeping is up to scratch, I would like to see him in the next time we are without Ben Foakes.

Excellent match-saving stand from Blake and Atkinson.

No. He’s a very promising young player who did very well in the one day cup.

More than a match saving stand. They got us into a match winning position. When we went off we needed 88 runs from 26 overs to win.
This was a game in which the new ball difficult to play, once it was 24 to 20 0vers old then the batsman could come into their own.
In the Kent second innings they swung the bat to sett a target, so a few wickets a give away,
In our second innings the openers tried to get on with it but the new ball got the better of Gumbs Geddes and Reifer.
It was a typical Beckenham wicket.

No sign of the Professor at Guildford.
Does that suggest he's going to Edgbaston?
