Re: Second Eleven Championship
The "stiffs" aren't exactly banging down the door for consideration, are they. Blake made runs again before he was run out I suppose...

Does that suggest he's going to Edgbaston?
Hi kjb - it strongly suggests to me that the Professor will be on the bus. However, I'm not nearly so confident of him playing. Hard to see who could be left out for him, especially as room will have to be made anyway for a (hopefully) fit again Foakes.
I also doubt the Edgbaston track will be a bunsen. Wark's slow left arm spinner Briggs is currently skippering the Warks stiffs at Guildford (and incidentally running rings round our inexperienced batsmen) which indicates he won't be in the first team match.

Now Virdi finds some form, at last, 6 for 49 at Guildford against Warwick seconds. It would please me immensely if Virdi came good. Surrey need a top class spinner and the very useful Jacks is not that. With the Professor taking wickets too there is a resurgence of Surrey spin. If anyone attending can give a more detailed view that would be helpful.

Hi Offdrive - I very much share your sentiments but am ashamed to say that the cold weather kept me away from the ground today. Virds had little involvement yesterday when I was there but I was pleased he seemed in good spirits.

Josh Blake played very well. Composed and calm when we were struggling and, having established himself, hitting out to good effect. Given handy support from a surprising quarter - Nathan Barnwell who was a composed and willing partner as he scampered every single going.
Blake was watched and applauded by Stewie as he brought up three figures. Must be in the mix when we lose one or two batsmen in the coming weeks.

Eight wickets for Virdi today. It seems that his mojo has been located at last, I'd guess you can see the smile from the boundary. Interesting decision now between Virdi and the Professor who gets the nod when we need a specialist spinner.

Would've gone to New Malden for the Surrey v Essex seconds game this afternoon but no information whatsoever regarding teams on Surrey or Essex website.

As a batsman not a bowler. It is likely we will not see him bowling any time soon.

Re: Second Eleven Championship
It strikes me that the second eleven team comprises a core of first-team squaddies who are much more suited to red-ball than to T20 cricket: Burns, Sibley, Virdi, probably Patel and Geddes, and the second-string seamers such as Taylor and McKerr. I assume that's the case with many teams, as red and white ball teams have largely diverged from the early days when everybody played both.
I wonder, then, why instead of scheduling a second 11 T20 tournament (which isn't bringing in any additional revenue for the game) they don't instead schedule some red-ball friendlies during this time, to keep these guys in shape and give those of us who don't follow T20 some cricket to watch even if it means going to an outground?

Re: Second Eleven Championship
I see Matt Dunn is playing and took the first two wickets. There's someone who deserves some luck. Has he been playing regularly for the Seconds?
