I thought it was only us old fogies who didn't like them!
Now we know why they pick Bairstow - could Foakes carry a protester to the boundary.
Apparently i the round just finished the pitch at Taunton suffered oil leakage from the roller but it's not clear whether this was an accident or a protest by Just Stop Powder.
Having just seen Head stumped off a ball that turned a mile, our selection seems to be off again.

Foakes would have shown more class.

One decent bowler today in Tongue. At 86/7 mph he was getting more pace of the pitch than the other medium pace 81mph brigade. You know the bowling was crap on a dull day green top tailored made for seamers. No balls and lethargic fielding. England may think they are cool but they need a hot poker up there bums. They let Head and Smith off to absolute flyers. This was pants.

Brilliantly said by KP. England cricketers really have been allowed to become unprofessional. IS this how bazball works?!
I cannot see us winning a test with this lot (as per my pre Ashes post), we have/ are being the author of our own downfall.

Perhaps the Aussies will declare to give us a chance.

Re: 2nd Test Lords 28 July
Is there any coincidence that since Saker became bowling coach our attack has looked like a bunch of uninspiring pie-chuckers (Broad probably excluded)? If memory serves me well I think we developed a nasty no ball habit in his previous spell with England too (although I could be wrong).
The Ashes are gone and the Bazball boys are having their backsides handed to them. This is going to be a heavy innings defeat. If England had batted this morning they would have been all out by tea, if not earlier.

Call it Baz ball or what you like. But you cannot import the T20 slogging into Test or 4 day cricket. It may work in patches, but you don't just pursue a one line approach regardless of the game situation. There are times for a Botham "let's give in some humpty" or a Jessop 100 in 75 minutes, but you have to know when and why. It's not Stokes "go harder" it's go stupid. There is no "new," way to play Test cricket because it's a Test of your technical prowess and mental attitude. Bazball doesn't fit, and it shows .

I’m sorry but the purists saying “you must always bat first” is utter rubbish. This was a bowl first pitch.

I agree that this was a bat first pitch ,we didn’t bowl well on it!! This doesn’t mean that you should always bowl first either!!!

If we'd had batted on this perfect green top pitch and conditions for seamers we would have probably been dismissed by tea because the Aussies have extra pace and Stark swings it. Generally win the toss, have a look and bat anyway generally works though. I'm not sure it'll make any difference with our "attack" though.

Yes but it almost did with the first 4 gifting their wickets. At least Stokes has the sense to change tack. Pitch and conditions couldn't be more different than yesterday.

If Lyon is out of the rest of the series, it will be fascinating to see if the Australians play their back-up spinner, Todd Murphy, or call up Scott Boland and play the five seamers (including Green as the all-rounder).

Re: 2nd Test Lords 28 July
yeah but ‘gifting their wickets’ always conveniently forgets the runs they scored before then, runs England simply weren’t getting before the style shift. We won’t agree, because every time we don’t win a game/wickets fall, the style is to blame, doesn’t matter what has come before.Chinaman wrote:Benmug wrote:haven’t even batted yet, at least wait for it all to fall apart first!Chinaman wrote:Call it Baz ball or what you like. Probably pitch dependent, not unlike England minus Leach. They have enough part-time spin in Labuschagne, Smith, and Head to cope, a la Root.
Mind you if England try Ollie Pope’s filthy leg spin he demonstrated at Old Trafford then we will be stuck!

if Stokes and co. were really intent on making test cricket more entertaining then they could make more of an effort to bowl more overs in a day ...Badges wrote:At 11.17 this morning TWO overs had been bowled.

Mr Bazball
Hahahahahahahahahahaha
At least with Lyon out it isn't totally one-sided.

I suggested recently that we would lose 4/0, I think that was optimistic ,can see no reason that we should be able to stop them winning 5/0. They are so much better than us,we are pathetic. So depressing!!!

As Gower said last night, there’s no problem with England batting hard. Just the lack of brain is the problem.
