Yorkshire v Surrey @ Scarbados 11-14 July

I thought it best to quickly move on and look forward to the main event next week. No idea what the squad will look like but hopefully we have Pope and Foakes available. Weather looks good for those lucky enough to be going, though it’ll be hotter down here

Surrey seem to have been keeping quiet about Foakes for a while, probably going back to when he last played for us.

Yes indeed - they keep quiet about a lot of things. I may have missed something but I’ve still not seen anything on Jordan Clark’s injury. I don’t think he has a Hundred deal so I’m sure he’ll be saving himself for the one day cup.

The PR from our club at times is awful.
You don’t see many interviews from the coaches.
Only what Churchy puts on his Twitter.
The batting should be decent at Scarborough.

Anyone going up who fancies a pre match dip in the sea on Sunday around 4.30pm is welcome to join me at North Bay beach. It will serve to negate some of the effects of the fish 'n chips, pies, full English and stuffed Yorkshire puddings to come. Plenty of lifeguards but it's a bit nippy!

I have a good excuse, as my connectng train from York to Scarborough has been cancelled. I've had to book a coach which doesn't get in until 6.15pm.

Gutted I can't go; despite the loss Scarborough in 2019 was a little bit of heaven. Wonderful outground and the sun was shining...

As has been mentioned on here the service from York to Scarborough is now one train every 2 hours
As far as ive seen it looks like it is starting from York and not coming over the pennines ?
We get to York at 13-48 and have to wait until 15-35 for train to Scarborough a claim for compensation will be going in.

Will Macpherson from the Standard has said he expects Pope to have this week off - seems like his opinion rather than informed reporting. He mentioned Foakes should be back and that Clark was supposed to only be out until the end of the Blast. Yorkshire have already named their squad and as usual, ours is shrouded in mystery because our club seem to be unaware which players they are taking with them.

I expect any Surrey player who is fit and not otherwise engaged playing international cricket to be available for selection. A cricketer having the week off in the middle of July is like a teacher taking a week off in term time or a vicar at Easter. Ridiculous, and hopefully fake news.

he needs a rest. Good to see Foakes back.

I see AV has joined Somerset on loan for one match
so maybe Moriarity will play.

Pope does have a central contract.

It's outrageous that Pope is missing if he is fit. But given he does so much better at The Oval than away (especially oop north!) I would rather he were "resting" here than in the following two games.

From the squad listed I would go:

Burns, Patel,  Amla, Smith, Foakes, Hardie, Jacks, Overton, Lawes, Worrall, Moriarty.

Tough on Ben Geddes after his century, but even without Ollie the batting seems well-stacked and I want Jamie Smith to show what he can do when freed from the burden of keeping. 

We are short of quality seam-bowling without Topley, Clark and Atkinson. Lawes probably shades McKerr who has looked nothing special since his return, and we should definitely play Moriarty as well as Jacks.

Virdi gone to Somerset on loan. Let's see what he can do for them. Doubt we'll see him again. Not sure he's good enough anymore. Shame.
