Re: Kent away Canterbury
This is indeed wonderful stuff, but we can't afford to waste it as we did last week. Given a dodgy forecast on Monday and Essex set for their second win, we have to try to get to 450 by mid-afternoon tomorrow, to leave us over four sessions to bowl them out without (hopefully) having to bat again.

Did Sibley ever play against Australia?

Just as well Kent are not using the Kookabollox ball Mr Key : we'd be 300/0 by now. I've seen some pants bowling but this toothless attack is barely Div. 2 standard.

Ex-Kent cricketer Stuart Waterton is brand manager at Kookaburra.

Kookaburra Ball.
Obviously there is something in the use of The Kookaburra Ball. How many Fine fast medium seam bowlers in this country have left these shores for Australia and have failed miserably, going back to the days of our own Alec Bedser Geoff Arnold for example.VicNorth wrote:Ex-Kent cricketer Stuart Waterton is brand manager at Kookaburra.

There weren't exclusive deals on the balls back then.

Bloody hell it's cold and dark, I thought the weather forecast was supposed to be OK?
I think we need to be thinking about kicking on, if Sibley acts as the immovable anchor at one end we need Lawrence to start scoring, show Rob Key he can play Bazz ball.
Lawrence 50 in 77 balls, 10 more balls than Burns.

Re: Kent away Canterbury
Raining - we need to really kick on now and atleast secure all the batting points.
Lawrence and Smith to play like they did second innings against Somerset. Seriously with 9 wickets in hand and in the lead, you'd like to see how the Kent attack would cope with a total gung-ho assault

Kent’s bowling attack is one of the worst I’ve seen over the past few years. Not sure any one of their bowlers would get into another side in Div 1.

Why isn't Lawrence taking Parkinson apart? Seems so pedestrian as we sit in the drizzle finding any excuse to clap to warm our hands
If we're declaring on 450 we'll need atleast 40 Overs and that takes us beyond tea. Maybe with only 20 Overs then to bowl at Kent before close of play -need some urgency now

We’ve scored 110 runs already this morning and there’s still 40 minutes until lunch. Nothing wrong with taking the spinners at a run a ball with the odd boundary and then going more aggressive this afternoon.

Re: Kent away Canterbury
On the face of it we are scoring quickly, but we have so much in reserve. It's been raining constantly I'd imagine the spinners are on otherwise they'd be off for bad light. So if this is the day with the good weather forecast I hate to think what weather we'll get tomorrow.
Looks like Essex will wrap up their match today, thrashing Lancs, so we are playing catch up.
Lawrence 100 in 131 balls ( second 50 in 54 balls)
Chucking it down now.... just as lunch called
-----
Essex win by an innings and 124 runs
-----
Sibley out for 150

Essex seem to win all their matches at Chelmsford by producing result pitches. Excellent seam attack and the have got the best spinner in Harmer.

Feel like I've seen more spin bowling in County Championship this season than the whole of last.

Certainly feels like we've upped the tempo taking a few risks
Foakes out caught behind 24 off 20 balls.
Forgot Ryan Patel was in team, he's out to bat next
Surrey 398-4 off 90 Overs
400 off 90.2 - another bonus point = 7 now

Alex! wrote:I mean, both of them had a good go at it, and got found out against top international bowlers
But at this level, if they keep plugging away like this, other sides will have no chance
I really don’t get this notion that Burns and Sibley were “found out”. There were a hell of a lot of mitigating factors, and Sibley is young enough to come again.

With Smith out now imperative we do declare, with potentially 50 overs of play left today
(That's what scoreboard says??? 52 min overs remaining)
