And the Kookaburra ball being used for the next two rounds, which if you recall produced 9/9 draws back in April.

We won the Championship in 2023 with 216 points 20 points ahead of Essex. (8 wins 4 draws 2 defeats)
We won the Championship in 2022 with 250 points 25 points ahead of Lancashire. (8 wins 5 draws 1 defeat)
Currently we have 7 wins 2 draws 1 defeat - 180 points, with 4 matches to play.
We average 5+ bonus points a game so that alone should take us over the 200 point mark.
---
Has the illegal bat thing at Essex been resolved? weren't they due a points deduction?

Interesting to note that Steel got the majority of his 21 wickets with the Kookaburra ball.

I'd say a similar points total to last year will be enough again (so another 36 points at an average of 9 points per match). One win with just four bonus points gives us 20 of those points. Two draws even without ANY bonus points would give us the other 16. We could even afford to lose one.
Somerset or Essex would then need to average more than 18 points a game over their remaining four matches to beat that, which isn't going to happen given two rounds with a Kookaburra and inevitable late-September rain/light issues.

I see Kemar Roach has pictured himself on a plane a few hours ago so looks like he will arrive today and I imagine the club will announce something today or tomorrow.

Indeed, especially as he had already shelled two much easier ones.
Thought he bowled as well as I have ever seen him.

He probably needs a Regular run of matches and feel wanted. Not Sure what the Selection policy for Trent Bridge will be he may find himself 12th man again if Notts opt for a Spinners pitch.

I suspect that they will opt for the flattest of flat ones to maximise their chance of a draw.

It's fascinating at the bottom. Kent are down for sure (not before time - they have been awful for at least two years). I won't miss them, especially as they've given up on playing us at Beckenham. The other place could be any one of Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Lancashire or Notts. I really hope it isn't Worcester or Notts, as they are among my favourite grounds to visit.
Going up - as I predicted at the start of the season - it's two from Sussex, Middlesex and Yorkshire.

Sussex and Yorkshire please. As we're playing with the kookabura and a possible flat pitch, everyone's favourite leggie will be included!Jackers wrote:It's fascinating at the bottom. I hope those that decided to batter Ben Foakes for supposedly slow batting have reflected on their previous foolish comments and feel suitably embarrassed.

I think our 3 Remaining away CC matches. Our host are are more likely to prepare spinner friendly pitches. Although Jacks and Steel are capable taking wickets.

Staggering abuse that Foulkes received. He played the perfect foil roll whilst still getting a valuable 82. What on earth was not to like?

guildfordbat wrote:Tbf to Foakes, he played a steady hand in a very valuable stand of almost 200 with Burns. However, and this is my frustration with his batting, he once more never really moved out of third gear making life very difficult for the later batters if they were to try for a fifth batting point.
That may not matter a jot if we win the match and ultimately the Championship. However, I just hope things don't go to the wire.
John & Sir Winston - did that post and others like it from fellow posters really batter and abuse Foakes?

I am a massive fan of Ben Foakes, and the first to argue that it is crazy that England think his batting is insufficient to select him given his peerless keeping.
I suggested that we could have done with putting Sam Curran in above him on Friday, given the weather forecast for Saturday. In the event, our bowlers did so well on the last day that the extra two hours were not crucial. It's easy to be wise after the event, and I also made the point that the likelihood that our challengers were not going to win came into the equation. None of this is "abuse" of the wonderful Ben Foakes.

I most definitely wouldn't want to swap positions with any other side but don't regard the Championship as won yet. A loss at Taunton would certainly bite into our current 35 point lead and could raise anxieties before our final match at Chelmsford.

My impression was that this was a difficult pitch to play aggressively on. Everyone who tried perished pretty quickly. It may have been a grind (in new money, it was positively breakneck in old), but it was the way to gain a huge first innings lead and break Lancashire psychologically.

Ha! You must be convinced that the third team mentioned would knock Surrey off top spot next season! The Nightwatchman wrote:Sussex and Yorkshire please. The Teams chasing us also have some testing games this week none of them guaranteed a win.guildfordbat wrote:Sir Winston Churchill wrote:Way, way too early to feel comfortable. I am assuming that as Sam has been omitted from the ODI squad he will be available for three out of the last four championship matches.
