Guildford tomorrow
Leaving aside the dreadful standard of the team we are fielding, it should at least be a good day weather-wise.
The club's email confirms that the gates will open at 9.30am and not "an hour before the game" as on the ticket.
But they also say that "no match-day parking is available at, or in the vicinity of the ground". Does this mean that Guildford College isn't an option anymore, or are they just not able to advertise it publicly?

Re: Guildford tomorrow
The only consolation I can take from the named squad is that I have never had the time or inclination to see the second XI. Now I get that chance.

Hi Jackers - you should be able to park at the College as we're outside term time but they're more clued up these days* and you'll almost certainly have to pay albeit less than in the town centre.
* You can thank a previous poster (? Sir Robert Peel) for banging on about the free parking which alerted them.

You can park at Guildford College in the student car park free as it is not term time. I checked it out with the college some weeks ago. Surrey never tells you about this. It is likely to fill up early so the alternative is the Park and Ride at the Leisure Centre which is located first left after you come off the A3, past the hotel, top of the hill. It drops you off in town at the bus station.
As for the team, well as expected, but just take it in your stride and enjoy the day.

Guildford Bat. No you don't have to pay and never have. I've been using it for 20 years. No one has been alerted and as you'll see by my last posting, I've already checked it out.

Re: Guildford tomorrow
Just had a detailed chat with Steve Elworthy about the reduced capacity at Guildford. I made the point that while a visit to Guildford is in many ways lovely and traditional, it is not sustainable unless the club are able to increase spectator capacity. I suggested possibly a new double-decker stand on the side opposite Woodbridge Road; interestingly he wondered whether some of the marquees could be replaced by spectator seating.

When our successful national team inevitably goes to shit in 50 over cricket, we can present our team today as evidence in the investigation that the ECB will do afterwards.

Re: Guildford tomorrow
We've gone from no spinners to 3 spinners!
Hopefully Burns is resting this game but comes back for most of the rest. Odd that they havent even mentioned Amla even though he played this comp last year.
Lots of bowlers not much batting. Virdi down to come in at 8 think that'll really be 9 but still thats terrible.

Re: Guildford tomorrow
Whoops no batting left. Talk about a tail!
Not there, M25 blocked, lost the little interest I had for this fixture and went home. I think that's probably done Guildford for me for good. The only box it ticks is a picnic lunch with friends which I've missed. Apart from that 2nd Division cricket at a 3rd class ground which has got worse every year. Lousy viewing, no members facilities, crap journey....hard to get excited really.

This has to be the weakest batting line up we have ever put out in any first class/one day game.

Virdi has got a nosebleed batting so high!
I cant believe these are still counted as List A. I reckon i could take wickets in this.

The Kimbers are brothers, I believe. I doubt that it will be quite as fierce as Overton-to-Overton though.

Re: Guildford tomorrow
I think they'd written this game off well before the start. 3 spinners did nothing, although the new guy looks ok, better than Virdi and Steele. But Virdi just seems to have lost his mojo completely, and Steele is just not much good. That was a cakewalk for Leicester and I only watched a bit. Hopefully Burns and Amla will be back soon.

Re: Guildford tomorrow
It is fault of management that we have a playing staff that contains so many seam bowlers and so few batsmen. Can’t see that Dunn,Kimber or Taylor have any long term future at Surrey with emergence of Lawes. Strange captaincy today that Steel gets a full 10 overs at 7.5 runs/over, yet Majid the only bright spot gets 7 overs? Cameron Steel proves once again what a disastrous signing he is. Stewart what were you thinking ??

Re: Guildford tomorrow
Four specialist batters, two of whom offer a reasonable back-up bowling option, a novice wicketkeeper recently recruited from the county league, six bowlers who shouldn't really bat higher than 8. Its not even a well balanced 2nd XI. Unless Burns and Amla can play it's hard to see us winning a game in this competition.John Hamilton wrote:This has to be the weakest batting line up we have ever put out in any first class/one day game.
At least Yousef Majid seems to have bowled a tidy spell but he can't be much of a batsman if he's down at 11 behind Dunn and Virdi.
