Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
Thanks for setting up the thread, Keith.
Can't give you any reason or even excuse for the IPL guys not being there but certainly understand your exasperation.
Six who played in the last match are missing this time for various reasons. 13 man squad named. Youngster Geddes likely to miss out. Unless Fortis has produced a turner, I would expect Moriarty to join him on the bench.

Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
Got to hope that it’s a spinners pitch, that’s our best hope to bowl them out twice. We’ve no had two good cricket pitches against Hants and Middx. Hope Lee Fortis keeps up the good work!

I will be suitably impressed if we get anything out of this.
Who opens with Stoneman? Patel?

Hi Alex - well, we almost certainly do when Burns is unavailable. I'm more comfortable with Patel opening than many posters. I feel he's earned the opportunity opening for the seconds with a century (facing Archer) and two fifties in his last four knocks.
Just to add, he's in a lot better form than Evans and Jacks who have both been struggling for runs. I would be particularly concerned with those two and Patel at 3, 4, 5. Better to keep Amla at 3 and partially splitting them up imo.

Where the hell is the "dislike" option?
I saw a few snowflakes were complaining, but it seems we have to like everything now ffs!

John - you don't have to like anything. Better though imo to say what you dislike and why rather than just clicking an option.

Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
Will Macpherson in the Standard has said to expect two spinners today as we’re playing on a used pitch. I hope RB will be satisfied with the 2 spinners + Jacks.

I see why the dislike has been removed, so why keep the like? Say what you think instead of ticking a box, that's the point of a forum.

I assume the XI will be
Stoneman, Patel, Amla, Evans, Jacks, Smith, Clarke, Overton, Abbott, Moriarty/Dunn, Virdi
Moriarty plays if, as suggested above its a used pitch, Dunn if not
When you think that for various reasons we have Burns, Pope, Foakes, Roy, T Curran, S Curran, Clark and Topley missing its not a surprise that we have had to bring in players that have struggled for runs in the 2nds

I think the ''like'' option is a convenient way of showing agreement with and support for a post. Contrary to a ''dislike'', the reason will usually be self evident.
Anyway, enough of that .... a toss to win and runs to be scored today, hopefully by us.

Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
The note fromSurrey suggests that England players in the one day team are not playing, there is no Bairstow or Butler for Lancashire either , out of Clubs hands, albeit ridiculous!

Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
Having had 2 weeks without any training at all it’s understandable that those three were not rushed back in, Roy especially as he had to do a longer quarantine.
Six changes for Surrey. Hashim Amla won toss and batted first.
1 23 M Stoneman
2 26 R Patel
3 1 H Amla (c)
4 10 L Evans
5 9 W Jacks
6 11 J Smith (wk)
7 81 R Clarke
8 88 J Overton
9 21 D Moriarty
10 77 S Abbott
11 19 A Virdi

Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
Looks like a very dry pitch, unlike the Middx and Hants wickets, which were green looking, this definitely browner than those. Hope Virdi and Moriarty do the business!

Very happy birthday with the day? Good to see Overton get a good fifty and Patel as well. Amal always worth watching. Pitch definitely looks quite dry and will hopefully spin later. A good toss to win I think!

I think it is fair to say that spin is not Gloucestershire's strong suit so I'm not surprised the wicket is dry and dusty.

Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
A very decent day all in all. We should now get the third batting point and perhaps (if Overton and Amla cut loose) even the fourth.

Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
A good day against one of the teams in our group we need to overhaul if we're to qualify for the "top six" at the business end of the season.
Amla rarely looked troubled and provided the "glue" that held our depleted batting line-up together.
The ball seemed to be keeping low on numerous occasions at the Vauxhall End - I think both our spinners will be keen to bag the Pavillion End.
