Notts at the Oval
The County Championship returns tomorrow. After a defeat will there be many changes? I would like to see Virdi get a game.
I wonder if GB will rest maybe Abbott, Curran etc with finals day on the horizon. I hope not.

Re: Notts at the Oval
No chance that Stewart and Batty will prioritise the T20 over defending the championship.
I would go Burns, Sibley, Latham, Smith, Jacks, Foakes, S Curran, Abbott, Clark, Lawes, Worrall.
Only four of that team would be likely to feature in the T20 finals (Jacks, Curran, Abbott plus one of Smith and Foakes).

Re: Notts at the Oval
Given the state of the table I would hope the club are looking at the treble.
As a result I expect Curran won’t play and maybe Jacks too?

The treble would mean winning the 50-over competition. We have two hopes of that - one of them is Bob.

Re: Notts at the Oval
With Burns, Sibley, Patel, Geddes, Foakes as a potential top 5 I’m more than confident of winning that.

Re: Notts at the Oval
Patel and Steel probably miss out. Atkinson v Lawes is flip a coin. Gus has bowled very well, but Jamie O can supply the extra pace he offers, and Tom Lawes opens...well, you know.

It's the second of two rounds with the Kookaburra ball, isn't it? Will that affect selection?Jackers wrote:Patel and Steel probably miss out. Atkinson v Lawes is flip a coin. Gus has bowled very well, but Jamie O can supply the extra pace he offers, and Tom Lawes opens...well, you know.
My guess is that Atkinson will play this time, in place of Lawes.
I'm hoping to see Jamie Overton bowling at pace.

Re: Notts at the Oval
As Marcus highlights in his preview, Notts strength is very much their bowling: they have more bowling bonus points than any other team except Surrey (we have just one more). Their batting is extremely brittle. While I hope we get back on track I do fear a two-and-a-half day match. With no more home games until September that would be frustrating. There may be a few showers around tomorrow which might help extend proceedings.
With all of that in mind, I hope Rory Burns bats first if he wins the toss today.

Pleased to see Overton back - just hope he's managed carefully with the bowling, 4/5 over spells and nothing more

Re: Notts at the Oval
i would play RP instead of Latham, not least because he is in form with the bat but more because things haven't gone so well since he has been left out

Re: Notts at the Oval
All eyes will be on Foakes this week, mark my words.
Burns and Latham, who were the two best openers in the world a few years ago, desperately need runs.
Burns, Sibley, Latham, Smith, Foakes, Patel, Jacks, Lawes, Abbott, Atkinson, Worrall. 4 seamers plus Jacks and Patel should be enough, I’d probably drop Clark.

Re: Notts at the Oval
Looking at the Squad the grass is going to be left on the strip.I thought we were going to cruise to the CC title this season. I have my doubts now I feel there is going to be some bumps in the Road.Hopefully Overton being able to Bowl will be a plus, KR is a big miss I wonder if he will be back for the last 3 Games? Hoping the Top order. Start to click and we manage to get over the line on our away journeys that holds the Keys on us Retaining the Title.

Would be surprised if the overseas Batter is omitted.
