Professor watch 2024
I thought I'd start a thread to keep tabs on the progress of the man I always believed was good enough to play for Surrey (in all formats).
Day 1 of the season, early April, wet conditions.....Moriarty 3 overs, 1 wicket (Rehan Ahmed) for 2.

Talking of Yorkshire, I see that they have announced a loss of £7.1m last year, even though they made a £4.1m profit for the Ashes test that they held

Our former "non-batting" spinner scored nearly twice as many runs as Joe Root and Harry Brook combined today.

The Professor is probably going to need a few wickets in Middlesex's second dig at Lord's to retain his place in the Yorks side with Bess doing well for their stiffs and pushing for a recall.

Not sure his place is threatened: Yorkshire batting is looking poor, and I whether Brook and Root are scheduled to play in the next round, Yorkshire would likely drop them if they were allowed to. I'm beginning to think Roots Test place is no longer nailed down. So much for the resting culture.

Re: Professor watch 2024
A tidy 1/12 from 7 overs for the Professor today but too little and too late to prevent a Middlesex win.
With his 5 wickets this season costing 58 each, I'm far less sure than Chinaman that his place isn't under threat. We'll see ....

It's his batting. I believe he's got more runs than Root or Brook.

The Professor was benched today for Yorks' home game against Derbys. However, the very out of favour Bess didn't even make the squad with Yorks seemingly content to rely on Root and Lyth for spin.

Yep, well done to the Professor! Any bowler should always be pleased with a fourfer. However, four wickets as well for fellow Yorks spinner Dom Bess and cheaper too. Given Bess is a better batsman and fielder (my opinion but I'm probably not alone) and Yorks won't automatically want to pick two spinners, the Professor can't afford any let up in performance to be sure of keeping his place.

Re: Professor watch 2024
A mammoth 54 overs bowled yesterday and today by the Professor in Glamorgan's second dig at Headingley. Tidy but nonetheless hugely disappointing as he finished with 1/128 and failed to prevent the visitors escaping with a draw.
