The IPL 2024
Have seen that Will Jacks, Sam Curran, Jason Roy, Topley, Tom Curran and Gus Atkinson have signed IPL contracts, and that the IPL runs from March to May next season.
So it looks like we will need to find bowling replacements from the overseas signings for next season first class cricket.

Re: The IPL 2024
Is there a further stage where you can pick up players after the auction?
Looks like Jamie Overton and Chris Jordan missed out in the auction.
Hopefully the former now is fully focused on playing County Cricket for Surrey

Yes there is a wild card selection after the auction rounds. It is at the end of the above auctions.

IPL runs - 29th March 2024 – 26th May 2024
So Jacks, Atkinson, Sam Curran and Topley will all miss the first 7 County Championship matches (the first half of the season)
1 Lancashire (a) 05/04/2023 09/04/2023
2 Somerset (h) 12/04/2023 16/04/2023
3 Kent (a) 19/04/2023 23/04/2023
4 Hampshire (h) 26/04/2023 30/04/2023
5 Warwicks (h) 10/05/2023 14/05/2023
6 Hampshire (a) 17/05/2023 21/05/2023
7 Kent (h) 24/05/2023 28/05/2023
The T20 World Cup runs - 4th – 30th June 2024, so the above 4 (if selected) would also miss the next 2 County matches
8 Worcs (a) 23/06/2023 27/06/2023
9 Essex (h) 30/06/2023 04/07/2023
and these T20 Vitality Matches:
1 Hampshire (a) 30/05/2023
2 Glamorgan (a) 31/05/2023
3 Somerset (h) 02/06/2023
4 Sussex (h) 07/06/2023
5 Gloucs (h) 14/06/2023
6 Sussex (a) 15/06/2023
7 Middlesex (a) 20/06/2023
8 Glamorgan (h) 21/06/2023

Expect a worryingly large number of Steel’s leg breaks to be on show.

Re: The IPL 2024
Is it confirmed that the IPL cannot sign anymore overseas players now? Just hoping that is that for them potentially pinching Jamie Overton and Chris Jordan, and as mentioned on another thread looks like Sean Abbott missed out on the auction too.

Re: The IPL 2024
Sydney Sixers qualified for Big Bash Final beating Brisbane Heat today,
Sean Abbott out for 0 off 6 balls and 3-0-22-0, on the winning side but didn't have a great day
Ton Curran not playing knee injury

Re: The IPL 2024
Seems there is something called - The International League T20 (ILT20)
Starting today in the United Arab Emirates.
Abu Dhabi Knight Riders - Laurie Evans
Desert Vipers - Tom Curran and (Dan Lawrence (one match before England call -up) and Gus Atkinson?)
Gulf Giants - Chris Jordan, Jamie Smith and Jamie Overton
The final is scheduled for 17th February 2024
Presumably Atkinsons call-up to India Test series makes him unavailable for this tournament

What I don't understand is how none of these tornaments are synced they all over-lap each other, all the foreign players have now left the Big Bash for this International League in Dubai now, so the Big Bash finals are here and its only Aussie players. Surely as a player you'd want to play in Finals, not just group games, it really is just mercenary behaviour jumping from one pay cheque to another.

Yes, ridiculous that they don't even see the tournaments out.

Like when Narine missed the Vitality T20 Finals with us last season, there's even more signed up to that US league this year and its earlier too. (eg T Curran, C Jordan, J Roy) Then they'll all be missing out on Finals of that for start of The Hundred.

If the club made a stand, its teams would be weaker in the short term, but stronger in the long term.

Re: The IPL 2024
It's high time to sort this mess out. I think that all this lot who want to swan around the world around playing in all this hit and giggle rubbish which should not be regarded as cricket, should not have County or England contracts. I don't care how good they are. Then those who want to play 4 day, 1 day, and ok Blast can be fully committed to their counties and available for Test and ODI. Stuff the rest, time to decide before they all end up as wannabes like Tom Curran.

Totally agree with the above posts. Unless someone tells me otherwise I cannot think of another sport where this behaviour would be tolerated.

I agree but if I was a Cricketer or a DoC I would obviously feel differently.

Laurie Evans in interview said it was unfortunate he was leaving Big Bash before the end, but if he was that sad about leaving early maybe he could have signed a contract for whole tournament, had a little break and then start of March joined up with his IPL franchise. Seems his break from cricket will come during our Domestic season whenever there is a county match!

Re: The IPL 2024
I have said it's high time the ICC steps in to ensure that players cannot miss domestic T20s for overseas T20s. In the case of Narine, that would leave him free to choose, but would force Roy, Curran, etc to be available for the Blast.

Narine shouldn’t play for Surrey again.
