Re: The Oval Invisibles (Covid's Coming Home)
Much of this article is worthy of Pravda in attempting to paint The Hundred as a success. Are TV audiences really up as is claimed? Much of the first half of the competition was a wash-out, so if average viewing figures per match are slightly up it suggests that the fewer of these matches there are the more people will watch. As for ticket sales, the article doesn't state how much tickets were sold for and whether the competition makes any profit from them.
The second half of the article discusses the future, and this seems the key part (re Gould and Thompson's vision: "their dream scenario is what is being called “the investable pyramid”. That would see the Hundred transformed so that all 18 counties are represented in a promotion and relegation structure, starting with the current eight in a top division and the other 10 in the bottom".
If this means abolishing the franchises that would be very good news indeed. If it meant creating another 10 of the city-based monsters which would in time airbrush counties out of existence it would be disastrous. As ever, the devil will be in the detail.

TV viewing figures were down for the first game and are only around half a million for the whole thing. Pretty poor when it's on Sky and the BBC. Compared to the Ashes it's a drop in the Ocean. Tickets were £40+, but I don't know if they were handing out freebies as well. But none of the grounds were sold out.

As the Invisibles have won and Covid has indeed come home, this thread is now closed by general consent. If you wish to comment on the Hundred, please use the Anything But Cricket thread in the first instance. For my sins it was me who started it!
If people are in agreement I will ask Admin to remove this thread.
Thanks.
