Perhaps Barnard just batted really well?

The match is wonderfully balanced, with all three results possible but a Surrey win or draw now emerging as favourites. I am quietly confident that we are capable of building a lead with the imperious Smith approaching his century and with Clark and Abbott to come. Even if the win ultimately eludes us, we should target 4 batting points (which means another 73 runs from 13 overs). The aggressive batting still to come should make that possible.
Not sure we'll specifically target 4 batting points, Jackers. Just make sure of the 3 and bat steadily and positively to build a useful lead. Anyway, we'll soon find out.
Totally agree with the rest of the post.

If we can get a lead of 80/100 and the weather plays ball we have a good chance.
I saw they said Churchy is ok but not well. Hopefully he will be back soon.

I'd have promoted Sean Abbott perhaps as
nightwatchman yesterday, I'd certainly have promoted both him and Clark above Steel. We can't afford for either of them to get set and run out of partners.
Smith century 100 off 125 balls (340-7)

Two poor cricket shots from Steel and Clark this morning. Work to do now.

Particularly with a bloke on 100 at the other end.
Very poor shot selection.

Whatever result now we go top of the table tomorrow, with the extra bonus points.
Surrey 455-8 off 110 Overs, Warwickshire fail to get that extra bowling point.
Surrey (8 bonus points) Warwickshire (5 bonus points)

Ha! And I wasn't sure we would get 4 batting bonus points. Tremendous batting by Smith and Abbott to take all 5 on offer.
Smith really is something special. Huge talent.

Excellent batting, and a decent lead with a better forecast for tomorrow now (famous last words, I know!).

Thank god we got Yates out, looking ominous with him well set.
3 wickets down now before they've passed our 1st innings score (86-3)
Min 48 Overs to play today.

Surrey (8 bonus points) Warwickshire (5 bonus points)
Just make sure no one uses an outsize bat!
PS Warks only get 4 bonus points (2 and 2).

Nice to see they have taken notice of SWC's tactical acumen. The single slip has moved from second slip ... to third!

State of play end of Day 3:
Durham (410- trail Hampshire (503) by 93 runs with 2 wickets remaining
Kent (362- trail Worcestershire (618-7dec) by 256 runs with 2 wickets remaining
Lancashire (331 and 100-6) trail Nottinghamshire (503) by 72 runs with 4 wickets remaining
Surrey (484 and 31-0) v Warwicks (343 & 209) require 58 runs to win with 10 wickets remaining
---
Looking good for a Notts win and hopefully a win for us. Lancashire would be rock bottom with 31 points from 5 games.

Brilliant stuff from Roach, easily the best from him this season on a not very helpful pitch!! He has taken as many wickets in this innings as he previously has taken all season!!

Didn't he go into this match with 6 wickets from 4 matches!!!
I think Alec Stewart said we rested Gus Atkinson with eyes on next weeks Worcs match, but why do the 30+ year old bowlers never get rested?

Seems odd to include Atkinson in the squad if it was planned to rest him.

Yep. I did feel Kemar's Surrey obituary was being written too hastily.
After a fairly disappointing day 1, we've moved the game on very quickly and effectively. Great credit to Smith and Roach for that. Not forgetting Abbott who has contributed well with bat and ball upon his return.
