Good bowler. No problems at Gloucestershire, international career seems to be over, let's wait and see how long he lasts at Surrey before getting injured.I wish him all the best in staying fit at Surrey ................

There was quite a large Worrall fan club, I recall, on day one in the Peter May stand when we played them...

Yet another badly thought out signing. THREE YEARS!! WHY?. Hes hardly had clubs bashing his door down for years. Give him a one year trial at best. This is quite mad, he will be another of those that we are lumbered with who most likely will not deliver.
The club is awash with stupidity.

Likewise - I can’t have any enthusiasm for this signing.
Worrall will be 31 next July. Hardly injury free (surprise) with back problems, stress fracture to foot and hamstring issue along the way.
I fear Surrey and most other counties will be stockpiling similar acquisitions should the crazy fixtures set up continue to be the norm….

He could hardly have been snapped up on the strength of his appearance for Gloucestershire in their innings defeat at The Oval a few weeks ago. In case he didn't flicker on the radar, he played in this match, bowling 25 overs and taking 0 for 68 (the only one of the six bowlers used not to take a wicket).
On the other hand, he did make 24 in the second innings coming in at 11, so I am guessing he will be in at 9 for us ahead of Moriarty and Virdi when both play.

Some other counties (yes, I can think of one immediately) simply could not get close to being able to afford to stockpile players. To be fair, I don't think Surrey are actually stockpiling, given that Clarke and Dernbach are departing. More a question of aiming lower in recruitment for players who are unlikely to be whisked off for the Hundred. Don't expect miracles from either but if you are expecting miracles, you may be missing the point.
Years go someone signed for Spurs "for the opportunity to work with Christian Gross". I suppose the equivalent would have been for Worrall to sign for Surrey "for the opportunity of working with Surrey's fitness team"!

On another note do we have a list of players who have contracts expiring this year?

Worrall is a good bowler. He will do well for us if he turns up.Signing for Surrey means you have a 50/50 chance of ever playing.

I am only aware that Liam Plunkett has no deal beyond October…

Wouldn't it be great if we could ever sign someone like Michael Hogan.

At least that player got to know the workings of the London Underground system!

Looking at the list I think Nico Reifer's is also up; I hope he has a good run in this comp and can look at typing him for a year or two if he does well. Again, how he's not played more T20 cricket over some of our other top order players is beyond me.
I think Virdi's might also be up? Goes without saying that I would hate to lose him

Unfortunately the team was also going down the tubes.

Not sure if there has been any update since this: https://www.kiaoval.com/main-news/nine-contract-extensions-in-senior-squad/ - but there are a few more up this season.

Re: Dan Worrall joins from 2022 on 3 year deal
Give Worrall a chance, it is an advantage he has a British passport, otherwise we would I think not have signed him.
Worrall has 222 first class wickets at an average if memory serves of about 27.33. That is not too shabby. We will lose Clarke and Dernbach at the end of the season and I doubt Plunkett will be around so that is a lot of pace bowling experience gone. Worrall may end up a dud, but it is not his fault we are having a poor season!

Happy to give him a chance but why does it need to be a three year chance? We could easily have given him one year with an option to extend.

With our fitness record, if this bloke stays fit, I'd rather have him as a good county pro that plays most games, than the likes of Topley and Plunkett who bowl about 25 overs a season.

Because he wouldn't have come on those terms? I imagine that Gloucestershire would have given him more than a one year extension.

I'm sure Adelaide is right that we would have to top anything Gloucs were offering in order to get Worrall.
That said, a three year contract is a significant commitment by the Club and so I trust his signing followed a thorough medical.
Did it?

Surrey’s Dan Worrall took 4-49 overnight for South Australia against Queensland.

I wouldn't claim him as Surrey's yet! We've signed a few who have never been sighted for one reason or another.

Over one year on and I am more than happy to eat my hat on any cynicism I previously had...
