Suffice to say Jacks is not the answer

Attack looking innocuous apart from Roach and Topley. Cannot see how we can leave out Virdi or Moriarty with this bowling line up,surely we should have played one of the spinners in place of Taylor who doesn’t seem to improve!!

You should have kept quiet about that, Badges. It'll only bring Adelaide back.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...
I think exactly the same question about not playing a spinner has come up at Lord's too. Why assume an April greentop when there has been so little rain?

Seems like we're meandering to a draw, although the weather hasn't helped at all.
Have to say following that one over where he got hit for a few Taylor hasn't bowled too badly, if he can keep that up alongside hanging around with the bat he could be more than useful this season.

Yeah. Fair to say we're not exactly going for the throat when Burns is bowling on day three!
I wasn't as surprised as some here that Taylor got the nod for this match. His figures were tidy in the pre season games. He's done ok so far in this one - unlucky imo not to have an lbw shout against Mousley go his way.

Seems strange that Burns gets to bowl before Patel, who immediately takes a wicket! ,

Oh dear me. These pitches do nothing for red ball cricket. Unless you've got a couple of super star bowlers it's a bore draw. Glad I didn't go.

Don't even really think the pitch has been the issue, Warwickshire got the ball to do a little at stages. Combination of weather and team selection more the issue this one.
Would have been nice to have started on a flyer, but not losing the opener like last year and having most of our top 6 put on runs can only be an encouraging start. I just pray that the bowlers get some kind of assistance at home this year instead of road after road...

Re: ANY SIGN OF TOMORROW'S SQUAD?
We should have gone into this match with five bowlers, especially given the quality of the specialist batsmen available to us. Having said that, we would probably not have won had we picked the extra bowler. Conditions are not conducive to spin, so it is doubtful that Virdi or Moriarty would have been game-changers. The real problem remains, as was the case last season, with the poor quality of our change bowlers. Taylor, McKerr, Clark, Overton, now Worrall....none of them is likely to make the contribution that Rikki made in 2018 and 2019. Had Sam Curran been fit to bowl then it would have been a very different kettle of fish.
As things stand, while we have a team capable of making big scores (especially at The Oval, where Ollie Pope's career average currently stands at nearly 100), unless Roach has one of those games like he did against Hampshire last season, we do not have the depth of attack to win matches against quality opposition until the pitches start to favour the spinners.

Re: ANY SIGN OF TOMORROW'S SQUAD?
It has proved a mistake to play Taylor,as I commented in an early post, 0/101 are his figures, most expensive of the regular bowlers. Why is he playing instead of Virdi or Moriarty, both with proven wicket taking records!! Not saying they would have run through Warks on this flat pitch, but far more capable of taking wickets. Even in April you should play your best bowlers irrespective of the conditions!

3 seamers plus a spinner would have been fine. I can understand playing the extra bat in this game but it’s not worked, I expect Jacks will be dropped next week.

It was Adam Collins last season so assume it’s the same.

Re: ANY SIGN OF TOMORROW'S SQUAD?
How Batty decided we did not need a spinner then bowl Jacks for almost 37 is scandalous.
2 facts:
1.Briggs/Yates 34 overs 4 for 99.
2.Prior to this game Jacks had bowled 92 overs in his career-taking 4 wickets for 320.
So in this innings he added another 40% of overs to his career tally-1 more wicket for 93!
Meanwhile Moriarty f/class career ave of 24 and Virdi f/class career ave of 29 did not even make the squad.

At the least the shake hands for a draw bowling offered a laugh or two up.
See you lot Thursday, will be nice to be back in SE11

He was definitely bowling during the lunch periods. Still not sure it's worth rushing him at this point and breaking his back on a flat one
