Re: New Signings For 2023
I don't know much more. I just feel a bit sorry for him.

Any rumours on our 2 overseas players for the
first few CC games of the season?
Amla and Roach or Smith in the frame.

Well this sounds exciting https://twitter.com/surreycricket/status/1613128638077046784?s=20&t=z_zBqTg8cwgH-6I93llO2Q
Would hope its either Roach again, or Narine in the Blast...

Thought he would be back. Hopefully he will stay fit.
Wonder what is happening with Amla.

I thought Amla was coaching an IPL team so I can't see him returning.

Let's forget about signing 40 year old batsmen and get Ben Geddes in the side.

Then you’ll need to go to Hove.

Unless he's signed in the last 4 days he is reportedly still in negotiations with "a number of counties". Wouldn't go to Hove though!

I still find it bizarre that Will Macpherson announces Surrey news before Surrey ever do. His article says we’ve signed Abbot. Shame for Overton but sounds like he may still play T20 Blast as a batter. Abbot is excellent cover providing he can stay fit!

It also seems as though Amla has retired from all forms of cricket. Therefore does the batting need reinforcing. He will be missed for sure

A true modern day great. Will miss him dearly
I suspect the obvious thing will be to have Pope now move up to #3 to align with his England duties and have Patel move down to 4/5

That seems the obvious move, with Patel up ot 3 when England comes calling for Pope

Just like to pay tribute to Amla, always felt he gave Surrey 100% commitment, who would forget him batting all day for 70 odd runs to save a match!! We have been very fortunate to have had him and Sanga as overseas players in recent years.Wish him all the best for the future.

Hi Cee Gee - in respect of new signings and being fair to Surrey for once, I guess the Club has to have all the paperwork drawn up, agreed and signed before anything can be announced whilst Will Macpherson isn't restricted by such niceties. That said, we're still poor about injury updates. Furthermore, your man Macpherson has a remarkably good ear to the ground concerning what's going on.

Overton injured playing for Gulf Giants. Fancy sacrificing possible Test caps for that!

Re: New Signings For 2023
Smith confirmed for three matches with Sussex.
When the late Philip Hughes played with Middlesex, any advantage he got from getting acclimatised was cancelled out by Andrew Strauss seeing his method close up. I don't think there is much to be learnt about Smith though, and he's unlikely to be playing against England candidates.

True, but he may well be facing 1 in the nets (Robinson) at Sussex

Re: New Signings For 2023
Smith's record in England just shows that any preparation for him isn't really necessary at all. Not sure he'll learn much either piling on the runs at one of the flattest decks in the country at Hove, albeit one game...

Sean Abbott until the end of July. Quite happy with that and hopefully no back problems this time!

Re: New Signings For 2023
We're going to have seamers coming out of our ears.
Roach, Abbott, Worrell, Topley, Clark, TC plus cover from Overton (when fit) Sam(when available), McKerr, Atkinson, Taylor, Dunn (when fit), Barnwell, Lawes, Kimber and even Ryan Patel. Jordan I hope will be white ball only.
There might be a few times when the over rate gets a problem.
If we only get to play on green pitches we could be ok but if there's a bunsen will Jacks, Virdi or Moriaty be good enough. Oh, I forgot Cameron Steel.
