We should have played two or three spinners.

Fantastic stuff from Lawes as well, brilliant first hour after being asked to bowl

Tom Lawes is just superb. And Tom Latham is one of the best slip fielders I've seen in a Surrey shirt.

Not sure we should be bowling Will Jacks yet: unleash Jamie O and Gus while we have them on the ropes

In other news: come on Middlesex!

Hell no. We will need a fourth day to win this given the dodgy forecast tomorrow afternoon and Thursday.

People wanted Virdi in for Lawes. God knows why.

What's happening with Warwicks? Dodgy pitch.

Difficult green pitch, like an April pitch but with a bit more bounce, ideally suited to Middlesex's attack. Excellent bowling from Bamber and some iffy batting technique. I don't think it is a points deduction pitch but I'm not taking a first innings lead for granted.

Watching the battle of the Overteenies with interest.

Essex enjoyed a good morning also. Hampshire batting always appears on the Fragile side.

Oh dear, more than a decade after the mankad incident we seem to have another one which has enraged the locals as news has spread like the wildfire on Rhodes.

Apparently Somerset were displaying their T20 trophy ostentatiously around the players' pavillion area and - it is claimed - Surrey asked them to move it because they saw it as rubbing our noses in it. So they have. Perhaps we should just have simply brought the championship trophy to sit alongside it.

Peter Trego is more annoying on commentary than he was as a player.

Ah but according to my Middlesex friends it partially made up for the two LBW decisions that were given but were clearly not out ....

Bloody Impressive bowling performance. The game is rattling along and given I've booked to stay here until Friday the dodgy weather may actually be a blessing in ensuring it lasts.

If we had got Overton and Atkinson on earlier instead of bizarrely bowling Jacks after half an hour I think we'd have had them out for 140-150.

Well that's the first part of the job done. Some very tidy bowling from all of them. Wickets seem to be tumbling across the country so let's see how we fare. If we can build a decent first innings lead it would put us in a very strong position, especially given the likelihood of rain interruptions over the next 3 days.

Yes that did seem to let them off the hook a little bit. I guess the assumption was that it would turn a lot as it usually does at Taunton ....
