The dead rubber 5th Test is here after nearly a fortnights break and it seems so pointless that England are intent on throwing the towel in as quikely as possible.
Neither Lawrence or Atkinson got to play at all on the tour.
Everything so predictable, Bairstow coming in to bat on his 100th Test decided to slog out and duly did, which signalled a batting collapse.

Pre-match speculation was a pitch full of runs and and that India might field 3 seam bowlers as it favoured seam. The highest pitch at 5000 feet could favour England.

England duly all out for 218 with all 11 wickets taken on the day going to spin

Someone should have a strong word with Joe Root.He reviews every time he is out. It's selfish and ludicrous.

Perhaps it's about time they got rid of most of this lot? Brook for useless Bairstow surely. Not sure what Root thinks he's doing these days but maybe he needs to go away and think about his game. Foakes seem to be left with the tail every time, some still want to drop him! Stokes, McCollum (with his huge feet up) maybe need to go too. What's happening to the captaincy? And really it's not their fault but our spinners are pretty poor even on raging turners. And there you go again, County Championship played at the wrong time.

I read a suggestion yesterday about bringing Jos Buttler back to keep wicket in Test cricket, I had to double check it wasn't April 1st.

If one things comes out of this tour, it should be the value Foakes brings to this side as a wicket keeper and ironically his ability with the bat too, of sticking at the wicket so others like Pope and Root don't run out of partners, as opposed to Bazball Bairstow who hits 25-30 runs in 15 balls every innings before inevitably slogging out.

When Brook comes back in, can't see any role for Bairstow, we need to be blooding more young batsman if anything against the likes of West Indies and Sri Lanka.

I wish someone would "FIND A WAY"" to get rid of Nick Knight. He manages to fit "FIND A WAY" in to almost every sentence he utters.

What was the point of playing 34 year old Mark Wood in this dead rubber? At least use it to take a look at Atkinson.

Stokes has an obsession with picking his mates. Like bringing Moeen out of retirement (the same Moeen who couldn’t be bothered to play red ball cricket for years). Bairstow kept in the team despite limited runs. Anderson playing the 5th Ashes test despite having a terrible series.

For all the talk (mainly from within) about how well they’ve done under Stokes, England drew the Ashes 2-2 and lost 3-1 in India under Joe Root too.

I think Jimmy Anderson,an all time great of English Cricket, should call it a day now and give younger players (if they can ever stay fit) a chance. He is 42 this season. He would need to play until he is 90 to match Fred Trueman's wicket tally.Trueman also scored three FC hundreds and 26 fifties,Anderson has 1 fifty.Catches 439 to 165.

Yes he has and now 700 wickets a great achievement but I'm still not sure what he's trying to prove here. Unfortunately it's on a day when England look like losing by an innings, and maybe before tea.

Well that didn't take long. Ok it's tough in India but this was a young Indian side missing several key players. England were well below par and that's being polite! Looks like teams have worked out how to counter bazeball, hopefully that's the end of it - and Bairstow.

Despite the odd exceptional innings e.g Pope and Duckett’s centuries the batting unit has collectively failed. Crawley probably the most consistent without going on to a big score. Apart from Bashir and Hartley, who have had to do a lot of bowling and done exceptionally well considering their inexperience, I can’t think of any other players who have advanced their reputation.

Foakes has shown why he's so valuable as a keeper and in another era his batting would have been commendable, especially in supporting better more fluent batsman. Sadly you know McCullum will be eyeing some white-ball batsman who keeps wicket part-time to come in at 7 and slog like Bairstow

First you have to acknowledge India's cricketing depth. Cricket has no challenge as no. 1 sport and with a huge population, the pool of talented players is also huge. Compare that with our tiny pool of mostly public school trained lads, if you go to a state school you are unlikely to play cricket. Despite all this we should have put up a better show. England seem to have damaged Pope who is infected by a desire to wallop the ball even if the ball or the match situation says otherwise. I will be quite happy if Foakes loses his place to Bairstow as he will then play for Surrey, I fully acknowledge that is totally unfair to Foakes, but I am sick of our players being unavailable.

Disgraceful. Not content with flooding the game with a never ending series of T20 slog ups all around the world we are now seeing the England TEST team playing T20 style.I'm glad we got hammered and hope we continue to do so.

Facing a deficit of over 250 our opening batsman is out immediately charging down the pitch and trying to hit a six.It really does beggar belief.

Well as Hartley and Bashir have bowled, can’t see either of them playing much in April ,they are second choice to Lyon and Leach, and no team is going to play two recognised spinners early season. Overall I expected little from this team and Bazball In this series, but they been even worse than I expected!!!

Tour was pretty bad, the last 2 Tests certainly. You wonder what a batsman needs to do to get dropped, maybe not play a shot and face an over of dot balls? because we chop and change our bowlers every test. The only constant does seem to be Jimmy Anderson. Who knows what our next Test team will look like, but we'll almost certainly bring Chris Woakes back in, and play just the one spinner. Seems ludicrous we have to rest and manage our pace bowlers, but them seem to get more injuries playing less cricket!

I was talking about the Ashes. He was out of form and Josh Tongue should have played at the Oval.

He’s had a good series here and deserved to be picked.

Personally I don't think Tongue should be near the side. Woakes, Wood, Potts, Robinson, Stokes, Atkinson, and yes, Anderson are all better than him.

I was actually doing some research and the Ashes was the first time Anderson had averaged 30 in a series since New Zealand in 2021! That's pretty good going.

In this series, only Bumrah amongst seamers averaged better than him (unless you count Stokes and Deep, who only bowled in one innings each).

On the seamer front Robinson is neither fit enough for 5 days (not that we play more than 3) or frankly quick enough. Wood has managed to stay fit lately but pushing 35 for a fast bowler? And though at lot of fuss was made of Stokes one wicket, really I don't think he's likely to bowl more than 5 overs if any. Woakes for home tests but hopeless overseas. Not convinced yet of Potts and Anderson is pushing 42. Cupboard looking bare so maybe Tongue should be given a run?

From the point of view of Surrey, Atkinson will be among the players competing for a test place and I suspect Lawes will be challenging in the future. Overton seems to have fitness issues which will hold him back.

Yep - Stokes is basically a specialist captain these days seeing as he barely bowls and hardly gets any runs.

It’s very difficult to balance the team (apart from in Asia when Root is a 3rd spin option) when he’s not bowling.

Without Woakes, there’s not really anyone who can bat at 8 either. Leach, Anderson and Bashir are number 11’s. Australia having Starc/Cummins and 8/9 made a difference for them in the Ashes while we had Broad or Wood batting at 8.
