The timing of Steel's wicket just happened to coincide with Hampshire losing their first wicket ....

Steel. bats, bowls, fields.
Bowled really well today and will definitely improve. Average cricketer yes, but really tries hard. Not his fault he's picked.
Virdi. can't bat, can't field, bowling gone right down the drain
Moriaty. can't bat, can't field, bowling? Looked good two years ago, hasn't done much since
Next year: one overseas player should be a top class spinner.
Moriarty can field.

I didn’t think I’d ever say this but I’d have been keeping Cam Steel on for a couple more overs after that.

what an achievement
its more than a team, its a great squad
from the experienced, to the overseas signings, to the new signings and the youngsters that have come through, they have all played their part.
also praise for Batty. He has made some tough calls this season, some of which havent been agreed by all, but he has achieved what he set out to do with a game to spare

Absolutely brilliant Surrey. I always said Batty would be a better manager than captain. Incredible that we’ve won the title without a front line spinner.

Re: Penultimate Game: Yorkshire at the Oval 20-23 September
It’s a strange title to sum up. I don’t think it was expected at the start of the season given our form during the covid seasons. The Worrall signing has clearly been huge. Jordan Clark averages over 50 with the bat and around 30 with the ball this season, which is outstanding and Jaime O has really stepped up after a poor start to his Surrey career. There are far too many to pick out as most, if not all have contributed to wins at some point. It does feel different to 2018 but I think all in all, this is a far more impressive title win. Congratulations to all.

PS. They don’t get any credit on here and justifiably so most of the time, but credit the England management for releasing Pope and Foakes for this game. I don’t think any other England players who played in the last test were playing this round.

Well done lads. The fact that we were able to enforce the follow on was crucial. Golden arm Steel gets a very important early wicket, another useful contribution!
I hope the celebrations are long and loud, players and coaches deserve it.
A word of praise for the ground staff too - great pitch.

Just to think time last year there was a 700 plays 800 pitch v Glamorgan.

I didn't jinx it after all !! It was lovely to be there at the end. Congratulations to everybody involved. A shame we weren't presented with the trophy on our own ground.

Yes terrific stuff from the team and coaches. They did a lap of honour, but I think the rules should be more flexible to allow the trophy to be presented in your home ground if you win there. After all you not going to get 3000 odd to see it anywhere else, maybe a dozen or so at Old Trafford in the rain.

Don't give those buggers any credit please. Neither Pope or Foakes are centrally contracted so they had no say in the matter, and didn't need releasing from anything.
Isn't it bazaar in the day of such an exciting finish they release their
crap review recommending a red ball reduction.

Fairly certain they're both centrally contracted
If this wasn't a title run-in I don't think they would have played
