Re: Surrey vs Somerset July 11th.
Looking at the current innings so far, might get exciting mid afternoon. But will Surrey take the bait!

I don’t think that there will be anything but survival on Surrey’s mind when they bat. I think the match was decided when we lost the toss!

Judging by the response from Surrey, it's possible that they are stung by this.
Might be a good thing. Get first couple of batsman in to chase the runs and then see what is up for grabs. If anything this should be a lesson for them. Stick it up them Surrey

Re: Surrey vs Somerset July 11th.
It's a case of right Surrey.....I want them all out by 14:00 and for less than 80. If Somerset declare before that I'd say they are wasting our time and adding further insult.
I'd start with Stoneman and Overton batting.
Stoneman I understand that you are a batsman, I've seen little of this from you this season. This is your time to shine. Indulge yourself.
Jamie - I know your leg is a tad iffy due to too much horseplay with Rory. Now I don't expect you to do much running, I'm expecting only sixes. I've seen you do this so no excuses now.
Rest is mixing batsman and tail enders. Perhaps when we get deep down the order you may well stonewall them if we are not within 150 runs come 5.
This is probably really silly but I would really ask if it really matters what league they are in next season? Ave a go

Having overslept this morning (still feeling the aftereffects of Sunday’s hangover), I had decided to spend the morning on job hunting and that I wasn’t going to go today unless things got interesting…
… I’m now on the tube.

Hope it's not a long tube journey. It might already be too late by the time you get there...

I’ve arrived and sat down in my required seat between innings - shame I missed all the carnage!

Just seeing Leech remonstrating with the Umpire. Somerset are rattled. It's up for grabs lads

Have a go, lads. I’d rather lose, quite frankly.

Well I'm on the way up as I do think they might make a go of it in the last session. Surely they need to Win now with the other matches, so why not have a go!

Middlesex look like they will beat Leicester, so why not open up with the batting?

Middx have done us a favour by winning, which at least means we wont be in Division 3 I believe

Re: Surrey vs Somerset July 11th.
Personally I think calling a draw was a touch dismissive. When the matter of the league is settled with Middlesex getting a result, why not open up and look to take the points. The point being btw that this was the last County Championship game for a good month and to respect the members.
Good to get a draw but why not just close out the match?

Absolutely astonished at the attitude of Somerset, didn’t ever think we would get out of this with a draw, well batted Smith and Amla. Total lack of ambition from Somerset!!

Re: Surrey vs Somerset July 11th.
I'd be tempted to say that neither side respected the competition and the members who were there. I can appreciate the discipline of Amla in the last match and think he has been something of a talisman this last few months. I can also understand a need to play with some caution whilst the Middx match is in doubt, but why not play on and look to get a result. Happy to get a draw bonus or allow Somerset to avoid the traffic.
Not been watching for long and what do I know! But it is apparent that Surrey are lacking in desire. Surely a match is there to be won. I have not seen much Cricket of course but I do think Surrey should have looked to play on. What are they saving themselves for! Friday?

I think that was a wimp-out from Surrey. Even after tea we only needed 6 an over and with 7 wickets.

He seems to have become a prima donna.Arguing with the Umpire, taking ages to deliver the ball, moving the field after nearly every ball.Oh dear!

Re: Surrey vs Somerset July 11th.
Somerset would have enforced the follow-on if they had needed to win to be in the first division.
Having said that, they certainly didn't expect what happened to them in the two hours that followed. They were not 69 all out going for quick runs to set up a declaration, they were bowled out.
Absolutely astonished and rather disappointed that nobody has even mentioned the man who took 6 for 27, who apparently doesn't really handle English conditions. I am not looking for anyone to say they were wrong about us signing him for one game - you may well still feel the same way about that. But his performance today was fabulous and gave us a tantalising glimpse of the man who would have made us a force in both the long and short forms of the game for much of the last decade. Well bowled Dan Moriarty too - as I've said from the start of the season, it is an absolute toss-up whether he or Virdi should play in matches where we can only play one spinner.

Good bowling performance earlier, notwithstanding I agree with you.
All very well mentioning an honourable draw but did they not have anything left to offer.

Well it was never up for grabs, and in the same position every side would use the same tactics.
