Re: Membership pack and card
I think this is just a cunning ploy by Surrey to lead to digital only next season.

Second email received, should get our cards after all.
All the negative reaction was avoidable.
Now let’s look forward to the season!

I think cock up rather than conspiracy but apps for tickets are becoming the norm elsewhere for trains, sport and entertainment.
I’ll be happy enough to have it on my phone as an option but not a replacement for a physical card.

Its a great idea in principle but IMO you need to have better more proactive staff on the gate/box office for when obvious problems happen, ie 1000s of people all accessing the app at 10.30am and it crashing!
More than a few times this happened last season and the stewards scanning on the gate just directed people to box office. All you needed was to download your PDF from the website and show this on screen to be scanned in, bypassing the app. But no one outside assisting the hundreds in the queue with this problem.

Wokoval wrote:Also received 2nd email saying they got it wrong and membership pack and card will arrive by the first home match. I suspect they received a few complaints yesterday. As others have said it is very poor all round. We only have the Post Office to do their bit. Nothing to worry about there!.
Far be it from me to be pedantic but it' the Royal Mail that delays - oops, delivers - your post. That's been completely separate from the Post Office since 2012. It's the Post Office that is embroiled in the Horizon scandal, not your jolly postie. Royal Mail may be pretty poor but AFAIK it hasn't got into perjury-enabled prosecutions yet.
On digital, my Middlesex pack was hard copy but the handbook, detailing all the successes last year, is digital, though I could have asked for a hard copy if I had wanted even more clutter. As others have said, digital should be an option, not the only one. As it happens, I bumped into a neighbour the other day and it transpired that not only did they not have the internet but they also didn't have a phone of any description. It must be getting very difficult to live like that.

Re: Membership pack and card
Clearly they were concerned that they were going to miss getting the cards to us in time, so drafted an email. The mistake was to press "send" a few hours before they realised they would do.
The learning point is that they should not leave it so tight in future. The cards should be posted by the last week in March so that we have them in good time. In some years, our first match (starting in the first week of April) will be at home. So they need to get their act together. And any suggestion that the club are relaxed about getting cards out on time because they assume members are comfortable/au fait with "apps" etc should be quickly scotched.

Having received email from the CEO this morning it doesn't seem that yesterday's email was a cock up as he mentions about starting the season with digital tickets. As I mentioned on here yesterday that is the long term plan to go digital.

How wonderful to hear from Mr Elworthy rattling on about our sustainability (yawn). It was really important of him to let us know the new “glasses” no longer have handles as this helps to save the planet!! Meanwhile he happily informs us that the price of beer has gone up AND that there is no refund on the £1 "deposit."
Deary me this county is sapping my enthusiasm for cricket.

If there is no refund, how is it a "deposit" at all?

My thanks to Adelaide for correcting me about the difference between Royal Mail and the Post Office. Not pedantic at all.
CEO’s pre season message predictably did not get my pulses stirring for the new season.

Re: Membership pack and card
You know for such a big rich club they never seem to get the basics right do they:
1. The current membership card fiasco.
2.Glasses with no handles. Eh?
3.Putting up the price of beer (Sir Winston won't like it)
4.No coffee or tea outlet at the Vauxhall End during CC matches. Maybe they want to get us all fitter by walking half way round the ground and back for a cuppa? Sustainabilty perhaps. Whoopee!
5.At the start of the Season the toilets look like they haven't been cleaned since last September. Indeed you never see cleaners going round during match days unlike other grounds.
6.Trying to work out how to give a comp voucher to someone.
But of course if you need to know anything about the 100 ladies games or a digital members card no worries. Or perhaps I should say no wokeis.

Adelaide being as pedantic as ever. I have corrected my post by now adding speech marks to "deposit" . As mentioned in the email for the previous several years one pound was added to the price of the first drink and was refunded when the "glass" was returned when finished.
Only at Surrey could they make the job of refunding one pound such an issue.
PS.I would like to know which charity they send these one pounds to!!

I'd just assumed that the word deposit had been used wrongly by SCC in the message to members, so (for once) I wasn't trying to be pedantic! As if I would have a go at anything SWC posts - heaven forfend.

Got the yearbook a few days ago and the (hand written) guest vouchers this morning.I have all the yearbooks from 1953 on.Last year they slipped one lady on to the cover in amongst a few chaps, this year there is a new format.
Four (not very good) photos split evenly between the boys and the girls adorn the cover.Photos 1 and 3 are the ladies.

B*gg*r all here so far. Mind you, my wife was chatting to the postie the other day and mentioned recent press reports that second class mail might be delivered three times per week. He replied, ''We couldn't cope with that sort of improvement!''.

3 times a week would be an improvement here in (West) Sutton.
