Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
Well we've played two spinners because we think it's going to turn. Hope so, otherwise the two hours before we declared prodding around was rather pointless. They should be two down, but I'm not convinced we are able to bowl then out twice in two days. And why did Abott bowl just one over?

"why did Abott bowl just one over?" Deteriorating light conditions.

Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
Credit to the umpires for staying on as long as they did, if the wetness of my iPad was anything to go by. Having overheated in the morning, it was soaking wet by the time they went off - it rained from tea non-stop!
The seamers only bowling as little as they did was probably the light, but they were also FAR too short in those conditions.

Correction: bowled out otherwise we might still be bating.

To be fair, the difference between declaring with 9 down and allowing Virdi to come out wielding the willow is usually pretty small!

Listened to the live stream yesterday, how Ill informed is Churchy about the bonus points system. Bonus points are only earned in the first 120 overs , not 110 as he said! Bowling 3,5,7 and 9 wickets taken . 200,250,300 and 350 runs scored. He was also seemingly not aware that with 9 wickets down the Tea interval could have been postponed for up to 30 mins. Both the answers to the questions are easily found on the SCCC records page. Bobby Abel and Graeme Roope. People commentating on tv really should at least know the rules!

Pretty sure he’s correct on bonus points within the first 110 overs. That was changed last season.

Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
What was changed last year was the number of points awarded for batting and bowling was equalised, instead of 5 and 3 it’s now 4 for both. But still in 120 overs!

Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
And here I was thinking we didn't have enough to bat just the once. Brilliant stuff, although I still think there's been some proper gifts. Excellent slip catching and Jacks took a blinder there.
Clean up the tail and more of the spinners please!

The best off spinner/left arm spinner/short leg combo in the business.

Not it is definitely 110 unless they've changed it back again. It was a altered around 3 yearsago.

Depends whose website you look at, the ECB agree that it’s 110 overs, but has the old. 5/3 split for bonus points! The Wikipedia says 110 with new 4/4 bonus points split. The Cricinfo has 120 overs and the new bonus points correctly. You take your pick it seems!

We can probably conclude that playing two front line spinners was the correct call!

Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
A remarkable 4th 5fer in just his 5th first-class innings...Moriarty has made an exceptional start to his Surrey career...that's 22 wickets in 2.5 matches.

Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
At the end of last season I said I hoped we could find room for both Virdi and Moriarty this season. Before the first match I acknowledged that in early-season conditions we could realistically only play one, but on last season's evidence I felt it was a virtual toss-up which of them should get the nod if we could only justify playing one of them.
I think today's events underlined both of those things, though if we only play one specialist spinner the case for Moriarty becomes stronger when Will Jacks, who can provide a more than handy off-spin option, is in the team.
I thought Amla's captaincy and in particular his innovative field placings today were excellent.

Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
The way that so much of the red ball cricket is now played in April and May is a distinct disadvantage to Surrey with such a good spin attack. Don’t get many turning pitches this time of the year

I know you don't like me using the M word but a county starting with that letter got 3 bowling points for bowling out Leicestershire in not many overs. I'm pretty sure that if you keep tabs on points awarded as other matches go on you will find that it is 5:3 in 110 overs.

Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
Most impressive from Surrey to win by an innings against the top team, without Burns,Pope,Foakes, Tom Curran, Sam Curran ,Roy and Topley. Don’t think the ball turned that much today, but having two spinners of the quality we have is a real bonus.

Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
Well played, well captained, good call on playing 3 spinners.
The points are still 5 for batting maximum and 3 for bowling. Check today's scorecard. Thats not changed in years. 110 overs changed from 120 I think in 2017 or 2018. I can't recall points ever being 4.

Re: Gloucestershire tomorrow
It’s seems it was changed last year for the BWT, bowling bonus for 3,5,7 and 9 wickets. Batting point as before but no extra points for 400 runs
