I wonder what the reaction would be if we had persuaded Moriarty to agree a new contract and then signed a 21 year old left arm Indian spinner for the last three games.

Will Macpherson in the Telegraph has said that Rory is an injury doubt. He also continually refers to Jamie Smith possibly playing for England but I’m not sure when this apparently imminent opportunity for Jamie is going to present itself.

There's an ODI series against Ireland September 20-23, but I'll be very surprised if anyone other than the World Cup squad play that.

It seems to me that it’s a bit of a punt by Stewart, can you see no point in signing anyone but a top class performer. He’s played just 4 f.c. matches, none of course in English conditions. Is he better than Geddes or Patel,I very much doubt it!! If Stewart has pulled a rabbit out of a hat, it’s a very small rabbit and a very small hat!!!

When does the team leave for the World Cup?

Can’t see Jamie usurping Harry Brook.

Geddes and Patel should be given priority.

Stewart said: "Sai has come highly recommended to me by people I hugely respect, including a couple of the greats of the Indian game, who have seen and worked closely with him."

I guess that's what we pay Alec the big bucks for. It's certainly a gamble: but is it as big a gamble as not reinforcing our batting stocks when we are playing Warwickshire and Hampshire, and competing for the title against Essex who have easier fixtures and a very strong team with few missing? Let's wait and see who is available and who misses out before we condemn the decision. I would be surprised if one of Patel or Geddes doesn't still get a game or two

This is awful news. I detest this bringing in of an overseas "ringer" for just 3 matches, I don't care how good he is. Can you imagine the reaction of all the other counties - they will again be having a field day saying that we are just trying to buy the CC. All this nonsense from Stewart that he is an addition to the squad is cobblers. He would not be coming all this way if he was not going to play. As I wrote in an earlier e-mail several days ago, we should be giving responsibility to Patel and/or Geddes to get us the title now, not an overseas who virtually no-one here has heard of. We should have just stuck to playing Kemar Roach as one overseas player as he is virtually a Surrey boy anyway as he has told us!!

What will be the reaction of other counties to Middlesex signing Jayat Yadav, Northamptonshire signing Shaw, Leicestershire signing Umar Amin, Essex signing Umesh Yadav, All before we signed our two for the run in. I have no doubts others have done the same.

I think a bit of self promotion from my own previous post is justified in the circumstances.

Has anyone witnessed Sudharasan’s gritty 60 for the 2s?

Yes I did.
In the first innings he struggled against the moving ball and even the spinner Shutt.
In the 2nd innings he struggled early but grew into the innings , Not overly aggressive batsman but patient and willing to work the angles. Though does have a nice cover drive when employed. looks to be a better bowler spin than Jacks.

Nice, thanks for the report. Good on him for playing a 2s match. Does anybody recall the last time a Surrey overseas player did this?

The weather is looking a bit dodgy for next week, rain around, hopefully not much. Will affect Chelmsford the same though I would think. This could go down to the last game.
