Re: Overseas for the last 3
When i walked back in to The Oval in 2021 after no Cricket for a whole season and a chunk of the next one,i was upwards of 900 sovs out of pocket.Like so many others i donated our (2) membership fees to the club.
How wonderful of Surrey to then spend our money on signing Ashwin for one match.

Regardless of what they say it only really matters what you think.

I would play Virdi alongside Roach,Worrall, Overton and Clark against Warwickshire but I bet they play Steel. Elgar was our overseas 2018/2019 wasnt he so maybe they might get him for these 3 games.

dougieginn wrote:I remember the last time Ashwin and Virdi played in the same match,Virdi took 14 wickets,Ashwin took 12. Wickets and our esteemed coach only took 4!!!! on a turning pitch!!!!We won’t prepare a Bunsen for the next match with so many seamers in our side and would make Batty look a fool for only playing pace bowlers. Please note that Virdi took more wickets in that match than Steel has taken in entire career for Surrey!!!Jhe10077 wrote:Prepare a turning wicket for Steel and re sign Ashwin
In 2021 we generated a Bunsen against Somerset and signed Ashwin for one game.
Match figures:
Ashwin 7-126
Moriarty 6-129
Clark 3-75
Virdi 3-104
Clarke 1-24
Patel 0-1
Overton 0-20

If Virdi goes aswell I wonder if we will sign a spinner
from another county. Jack Carson?

Is he any better than either Moriaty or Virdi?

Yes, that would look an appealing move to a promising spin bowler.

Why would any spinner join a county who don’t play spinner’s, of course he’s no better than Virdi or Moriarty, look at his stats!!

The thing is we are very unlikely to play any spinner, even Stee whose bowling has improved, if we have 5 fit seamers are we. I can't see the two games at the Oval being played on a turner unless we sign Ashwin. But why would we? Which just leaves the Rose Bowl at the end.And as it's nearly October by then it probably won't matter.

I should have said that its improved in the ODC. Top wicket taker I think. I doubt he'll play in the CC though.

Somerset opted for batting practise rather than make us follow on.A few weeks later Glamorgan batted on and on and on so Cooke could get 200+.Thank goodness we gave them our money for nothing.

Must admit not a lover of a player being flown in with no past allegiances to Surrey for 3 Games of Cricket. I know it has happens in the past and it worked Successfully.

You were saying? Alec has pulled a rabbit out of a hat with a young Indian player named Sai Sudharsan. 21-years-old left-hander. Averages nearly 43 from just 8 first-class games, top score of 179. Got an IPL gig this year so I assume he doesn't hang around.

Re: Overseas for the last 3
I'll be honest in saying I've not seen much of him. Other than being a lefty, which we lack at the top of the order (Burns and to a lesser extent Patel), why have we brought him in? We should have all of our top order bats available apart from Jacks and Pope.

Re: Overseas for the last 3
Pope is worth nearly 100 runs an innings at The Oval, and Jacks was not our "Player of the Year" last year mainly for his occasional off-spin! When you factor in that Burns has been in dreadful touch and that we don't know for sure whether he, Foakes and Clark have all fully recovered from the injuries they picked up in August, I'd say it's a wise move. Also two of the three counties we have to play - Warwicks and Hampshire - have very strong bowling attacks.
