Re: Overseas for the last 3
Based off social media Foakes and Clark look fine. Should have Smith available, and let's be honest, I think Geddes has earned the right to be playing in that top order as well

Doesn’t show a lot faith in the Squad we have at our disposal

I wonder if he will bat at number 3 or if Patel will play and bat there. So maybe 4.

CARIBBEAN PREMIER LEAGUE
Started watching this last night as the Kensington Oval is a ground we've been to many times and just wanted to have a look.I thought i recognised a player getting off the coach but had to rewind to make sure.Yes,it was Tom Curran!!! He was making his debut.Laurie Evans was also involved.

That’s a shame. It would be great if we had overseas
players for the whole season like the old days but with
all this franchise cricket and international one day series
going on that’s nearly impossible now.

Re: Overseas for the last 3
The press release is very careful to call the signing adding depth to the squad so there’s no guarantee he plays. It’s not like signing someone of Latham’s calibre, for example. I’d still be surprised if he didn’t play though.
Will Macpherson in the Telegraph has said that Rory is an injury doubt. He also continually refers to Jamie Smith possibly playing for England but I’m not sure when this apparently imminent opportunity for Jamie is going to present itself.

It’s not remotely close to being a rabbit out of a hat if most of us have to google to find out who the player is.

I understand all that and agree with you,BUT do we really need to keep signing players for 1,2 or 3 games?I think it's ludicrous. We have more than enough players already and i'd like to see our own players Geddes,Patel and Blake etc get a chance.

Let's wait until the guy plays before we say he isn't going to strengthen us. Yes, he may not yet be a household name, but we don't usually sign dud overseas these days. There may still be room for Patel or Geddes in the team. Maybe if we wrap the title up by Northamptonshire we can give a couple of other people a game at Hampshire, but we have to trust Stewart and Batty to get us over the line.

This is awful news. I detest this bringing in of an overseas "ringer" for just 3 matches, I don't care how good he is. Can you imagine the reaction of all the other counties - they will again be having a field day saying that we are just trying to buy the CC. All this nonsense from Stewart that he is an addition to the squad is cobblers. He would not be coming all this way if he was not going to play. As I wrote in an earlier e-mail several days ago, we should be giving responsibility to Patel and/or Geddes to get us the title now, not an overseas who virtually no-one here has heard of. We should have just stuck to playing Kemar Roach as one overseas player as he is virtually a Surrey boy anyway as he has told us!!

How well he does is irrelevant to me. It's just wrong.

Re: Overseas for the last 3
Whilst I agree with alot of what has been typed, in that players like Patel and Geddes should be trusted and given an opportunity, Sai could not only be here for the 3 games at the end of this season, BUT he may just be available for a few seasons yet, especially due to his age, not only in the 4 day game but maybe in white ball cricket as well.
It could be the start of a cricket relationship

No chance - the IPL will always come first to them and the BCCI

Yes of course this is a possibility BUT any such relationship should start at the beginning of a season not with 3 matches to go. There is no way Surrey would have signed him for these 3 matches if we were mid-table with nothing riding on the games and that is the big difference. By the way, having now read a little about this young Indian, if we did sign him for a few years it very much looks as though he is just as keen on the "baseball" form of our game as he is on proper cricket so he will probably be off in a couple of years joining those great team men, the Curran brothers, playing franchise nonsense all over the world.

Re: Overseas for the last 3
Of Course, all of the above could be (and probably will be) true, and im aware that overseas players tend not to stay with 1 county like the good old days such as Clarke with us, Marshall with Hampshire etc etc, but i have no doubt that some thought the same when we 1st signed Roach, who keeps coming back as he genuinely seems to love it here.
It may be a 3 game stint, it may not

Or he could feel.unwanted and sign for Yorkshire. That could never happen with one of our own, could it.

I'll go for not. One game ,pick up an injury, take his dosh and go home. Then sign for someone else next year and someone else again the year after.

Re: Overseas for the last 3
He may be brilliant but does eight first class matches mainly in India (I presume) tell you much about how he well he will do on seaming English September pitches?
Having said which, my county is also looking for an overseas batsman for the last four matches. Probably end up with someone from Nepal.

I’ve read that we’re unlikely to see Jacks for any of these matches as England will rotate for the Ireland ODI series and Jamie Smith may also get a call for that.
