On one of the wall plaques around the ground it mentions the match against the Aussies, but describes him as being an OFF SPINNER ?? Unless they’ve changed it since then.
Well he was slow left arm according to the cricket books, but he usually bowled it at medium pace zipping and almost skidding it off the pitch. Not sure I'd really call him an off spinner though.

You are not going to get pace and bounce in early April especially after the winter rain we have had. A lot of drawn matches although many weather affected. Very pleased to see more spin bowling especially leg spin. Will be interesting to see what changes when we move back to the Dukes ball. Interested to see other views.
Key talks a load of crap and shouldn't be anywhere near the game. There have been just two wins in the first two rounds of games! It has helped spin, but how ever hard the seamers bang it in it does virtually nothing of the pitch. It's not designed for English conditions. Only good use would be the T20 or the 100 or better still the dustbin. Be interesting to see what happens in the next round when we are back with the Dukes. Wonder what Deadly would have thought about it.....

I hate when people say "left-arm off-spin" or "left-arm leg-spin". Idiots.

Rob Key was paid money by Kookaburra for at least part of his career.

I wonder if in 42 years time people will remember who toured England in 2024.

You don't have to remember.A simple search,in this case about Derek Underwood, will tell you all you need to know - and save you posting total bollocks.

Re: Somerset at the Oval
We can't both be posting total bollocks! I'll hold my hands up if I'm wrong. Those very famous Patrick Eagar photographs of him hopping round against the quicks are from the 1970s.
The 'remembering who the tourists were' comment was an aside really. I thought you'd approve.

Deadly Derek 297 wickets without the DRS system.

I'd like to think that cricketers of that generation wouldn't have let DRS happen.

I was acknowledging that someone who had watched cricket in the 1970s would probably know more about it.

Re: Somerset at the Oval
I've just been told on good authority that there was an embarrassing (for the Club) incident during the Somerset game. Apparently, Somerset players reported that some of their club jumpers had been nicked from the boundary fence during the lunch break. Surrey have excellent CCTV, through which they were quickly able to identify the culprit, who was recognised as a very familiar "face" at The Oval, and a member of some 30 years' standing. They located him sitting under the gasholders, and asked him if he knew anything about any missing jumpers. When he denied it, security swooped in and searched his large bag...and there they were.
Needless to say, his membership was summarily removed (I don't know whether any criminal proceedings have followed).

What was the geezer going to do with the jumpers sell em! If he had been Muslim the tossers in the Met Police would have turned a blind eye 100 percent.

Does seem an odd thing to do a couple of days into the season, when you've probably only just received your membership card in the post
